Greek Villa

Has anyone rented a villa in crete?
Is there a website that can help me find one?

I've rented flats in Crete, but not a villa as such. Pure Crete do them as do Simply Crete.

Try the explorecrete website for information

If you don't mind package deals, KOSMAR are very good operators to Greece (from UK). We always go to Greece with them, and they are inexpensive.

In Chania you can rent and old stone build ,restored mansion (sleeps 4) with a pool and a beautifull garden with orange/olives trees .
it is called METOHI KINDELIS.
a fabulous experience ,far from the tourists traps...

www.metohi-kindeli.gr

db

Kosmar are reasonably 'inexpensive' but folks should be aware that with that company there are a number of additional costs to consider. They are all of course optional but as Kosmar do not show prices for them in their brochure it is important to take them into account. For example:-

air-conditioning (2002 price was 7 euro per night and paid locally)

Safety Deposit (2002 price was 2 euro per night and paid locally)

If you choose a two-centre holiday with Kosmar you need to pay all the trip costs (bus, taxi, ferry) between each centre. Again, you pay those charges locally.

K.

Dear W Kontes!

Is Crete you are specifically looking for ? How many people are you going to be ? Crete is amazing, especially the Western part of it. My grandmother has a summer house there, unfortunately not for rent. In any case, if you go to Crete (although I live in Athens) I might be able to help ypu with my opinion. If you don't go with youg kids, other islands of the Aegean or Ionian Sea would be a good case too. If you are going in Spring or Easter time (Greek Orthodox Easter) Ioanian Sea islands would be great !!
Because there are lots of IF's I can let you know my opinion if you provide a couple more details...
Yiannis

Thank you for your help. This is my honeymoon I am planning. I lived in Paros for summer and athens for a year and have travelled extensively in Greece although not Crete speficly. I see Crete as offering the most diversity without island hoppping and as it so large I won't feel as though I am overwhelmed as a tourist with other tourists. Let me know if you think this is accurate.

Thank you

William,

Although I am not objective about Crete (since my mother is from Crete) I believe Crete will not give you the feeling of the Aegean islands with the small white-washed houses etc. It's a totaly different island. On the other hand, it offers many different terrains to explore. Since it's your honeymoon I don't know what style of vacation you are lookinf for. If you want quiet, not looking for trekking sites, and not lots of museums then you know the style since you have visited Patmos. Although keep in mind each Aegean island has its own surprises, but if you don't want to do island hoping then Crete will be better. Crete can be combined with a couple of days to Santorini since it's the closest island from Heraklion (there is direct hydrofoil service too). Once more, if you choose Crete try to explore mostly the West side (Chania) and also the whole South of Crete.
A site that might also help its the following:
http://www.thatsgreece.com/online/section.asp?section=27
try also the main site :
www.thatsgreece.com
seems to offer nice info not very touristy and as a Greek I find it good information and accurate. I don't know how often they update it though.

Good luck!
I really enjoyed Agios Nicholos, and Hania. I think you've made a good choice.
