Haven't done it because have sense enough not to.... are u from US? Why not take cruise in Caribbean instead? Much likelier to have lovely warm weather.
Even if by rare luck u don't get rough seas iin the MEd and lots of rain, many of the islands will be almost "closed down" as inhabitants move to mainland or big cities for winter.
You may have been attracted by a low cruise price-- theree IS a reason why it would be low. FOrget it.

I have no idea but will post anyway. We are planning a cruise through that area in Sept 09 with a stop at Santorini on Oct 1. It is our plan to depart the ship there and spend a few days on the island prior to returning to Rome or Athens. Our preliminary information is that Santorini begins to shut down around Oct 15. One of the B&Bs indicated that the first full week of October is their last week for the season. I am sure some places stay open year around,
The question I would try to answer is the degree that the island have shut down in Nov and Dec.

I am just back from Greece and we were in Santorini Sept. 29 - Oct. 2. I know its not much to go on, but our experience was that things were beginning to shut down. We had some clouds and a stray shower, but nothing to keep us from enjoying the caldera cruise, shopping and dining. Unfortunately, they closed the hotel pool as of Sept. 30, before we got to enjoy it, even though the weather was nice enough. IMHO if you're not primarily interested in the beach you will enjoy Santorini in the first 2 weeks of Oct. It was plenty crowded for us when folks from the 5 cruise ships anchored off Fira descended upon Oia! But be careful because flights and ferries are definitely beginning reduced schedules Oct. 1.

Cindyi, appreciated the comments. That is about what we anticipated. We have been to Santorini off a cruise last summer and would love to have an extended stay. We are considering a cruise out of Rotterdam that ends in Athens with the next to last stop in Santorini. We will get off in Santorini for few days and then head back to Europe. At the moment are waiting for the window to open for ff reservations. Will take anything into Europe in early September and anything back in late October.

We did a cruise last November third week and the weather was quite pleasant. The coldest day was in Split Croatia but even then not bad. Greece was very nice, light jacket weather, no rain. We enjoyed it very much.
