greek ferry tickets

I am on the greeceferry website attempting to purchase ferry tickets santorini to mykonos. I have a choice of delivery options all that seem quite costly on top of the $15.00 service fee. They even charge to pick up at the port office. Is this a safe option or should we pay the extra expense and have the mail to us here in the states.

It would be far simpler to buy the tickets in Greece. The ticket agents all use the same computer system, so you can buy the tickets in advance from any travel agent in Greece.

Can't risk the chance of the ship being old out.

When are you traveling? I assume you are referring to FlyingCat 4. If July or August, I can understand your concern, but otherwise there's not likely to be a problem if you wait until arriving in Greece to buy your tickets. Even if that particular ferry is sold out that's not the only way to get from Mykonos to Santorini. Albeit not as quick or convenient, there are other ferries from Mykonos to Naxos and Paros, and LOTS of ferries from those two islands to Santorini.

On the other hand, if it will save you worrying about the connection between now and your trip, just bite the bullet and have the tickets sent to your home in the US. Then all you will have to worry about is the tickets arriving in the mail on time.

I agree, unless you are travelling in July or Aug. buying tickets ahead of time is not necessary. I wouldn't even buy them ahead of time in Greece from a travel agent. I always buy them at the ticket booth near the ferry that I am taking. Never had a problem.

Thanks for your input. We are travelling May 3. Not exactly high season. If I check out of my hotel go down to the pier with my bags I'd rather have a ticket in hand.

Just pop into a travel agency in Santorini the day before you travel. There are lots of agents selling ferry tickets.

mwatson, here's another option for your consideration: When you first arrive at the Athens airport go to the Amphitrion Holidays travel office and buy your tickets then and there. In May they won't be sold out. The Greece experts here know what they're talking about.
