I would say definitely go it alone, it's an easy country to get around. Don't know where you're thinking of going in Greece but you'll only need a few days in Athens and then maybe hit some of the islands, especially Santorini. You may consider also going to Istanbul which is extremely friendly and a whole different country and culture but again easy to get around.

My first trip outside of North America was a trip to Greece in the mid-70's. We flew to England, then on to Athens. At the time, I was 25 - I still remember it as one of the best trips I've ever taken, and it set me up for a lifetime of travel. We did it on our own and that's what I would recommend.

My first trip abroad 2 years ago was to Greece. I think you will get a better experience by doing it on your own. You will be able to choose your locations, hotels, restaurants, mode of transport, attractions, etc. If that is all pre-arranged for you, you have no say and may miss out on some great things.

Tina, Greece is easy on your own because everyone speaks English. Start your research at www.greecetravel.com

Something you might want to do is go to Athens and get hooked up with a 2 or 3 day tour to Delphi and Meteora. Then take a trip to one or of the more islands.
