Greece - Telephone/Fax Numbers

Just a quick note to say that on 3rd November Greek telephone numbers will change again.

City/town codes will begin with the number '2'. For example,

if calling Athens:

(30) 1 01234567 changes to (30) 21 01234567

if calling Mykonos

(30) 289 012345 changes to (30) 2289 012345

I hope this helps if anyone here needs to phone or fax hotels etc from Sunday.

Thanos

Thank you Thanos! This is helpful as I am planning to phone a few from my guidebooks which do not list the updated numbers.

You are welcome, Ethemis.

The examples I have given are for dialling to Greece from another country. It's a little different if dialling from a Greek number TO a Greek number. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll post those changes too.

Hello Thanos,
Per your Fodor's comments. What are the changes for within Greece. =
I wrote them down a couple months ago and now cannot find my note.
Also what is the situation for a transition period? I received =
notice from OTE there was no transition period for the internet number. =

Thanks for the help

Michael

Share our Piece of Paradise on Paros. Hi Paros Shep

The new numbering for within Greece is initial digit (0) of the city code is substituted by 2:-

If dialling from Paros to Athens:

01 01234567 is now 21 01234567

from Athens to Paros:-

0284 012345 is now 2284 012345

As far as I am aware there is no transition period. Today it's a straight forward switch to the new numbering system.

Also, from 3rd November for Internet access in Greece replace the initial "0" with an "8". For instance the number 096 201 2345 becomes 896 201 2345.

Hope that helps.
Do you have to dial all ten digits locally, as well?

thanos Nov 3rd, 2002 06:09 AM

Michael

I think Thanos did reply to your first message (a couple of postings above this one).

You know, all of the information Thanos has posted here has really been helpful to me as I will soon need to begin faxing some hotels in Greece. Thank you so much.

In my mind this is exactly what Fodor's is all about as I'd have never known about those changes.

Well done and thank you Thanos.

Sally

For those of you that might have a question about the numbering system, you may visit the site:
http://www.eett.gr
then choose the english pages, and wait also for the "pop-up" window. There you will see how you may call Greece from abroad, or while you are here.
PS. the last phase taking effect in January and concerns only mobile phones in Greece, can be already be used, the day concerns the last day that the old system will work

Yiannis
