Greece--- seeking clarifications on sooo many topics

Hi! Me & my husband are Planning a trip to greece(Athens,Myconos,Santorini) in 2nd week of Oct... We are trying to plan well in advance but the problem is we have not too many travel agents dealing with Greece in India, sooo we have to depend pretty much on web... There r few questions which r bothering us....
1)which hotel location wise (near to attractions & main city) we should take around 200-250euro/night type in Athens(for 2 days)
2)how much cost taxi will take from airport to hotel....should we request hotel front desk to arrange for us in advance or r they available outside the airport...what r cheaper options
3) from myconos to santorini should we take superjets or flying cats....reliability is must
4)how much time it takes from oia village(considering Katikies but yet not made up our minds for there is sooo much good and bad publicity of all the hotels on net,if somebody can help us with tat 200-300 euro /night) to airport for our flight back to atens
5) best ways to view attractions in myconos(grand hotel) we r not avid walkers.

Greece is wonderful especially the islands and I can try to answer some of your questions :D

1) Athens is a grittier then other european cities but when choosing a hotel it is nice to pick one with a view of the Acropolis at night and if you can pick one with good access to several transportation methods incase of strikes (like metro/tour bus/regular bus stops nearby are good)

2) the government in greece put a limit on how much taxis can charge for trips from the airport to central athens, i think it is maximum 30 or 35 euro, but maybe someone else can confirm this to make sure you dont get overcharged.

All I know is that when you get in a taxi and its an agreed upon price for the trip make them write the amount and destination down on a piece of paper because they will try to charge you more after you arrive at your destination.

Best and fastest way to get from airport to central athens is by metro but the cheapest way is by bus though it takes too long.

Good hotels in your price range can be found in the Monastiraki and Magrykianni districts of Athens. Avoid hotels in the area near Omonia Square.

The highspeed catamaran ferries, SuperJet and FlyingCat, are small and if the sea is rough the ride will be very uncomfortable. If you have any worries about seasickness you can minimize the discomfort by taking the SuperJet to Paros then the larger and more reliable Blue Star Ferry the rest of the way to Santorini.

The price of a taxi from ATH into central Athens is now fixed at €35 during the day and €50 after 11:30pm.

A taxi will take about 30 minutes from Oia to the Santorini Airport and the fare is €25. Even if you have an early morning flight it's no problem.

Katikies is an excellent hotel. If you want to stay there you won't be disappointed. Also check Atrina Houses, Aris Caves, Esperas Houses, La Perla Villas, Kyma Villas, Nostos Apartments, Strogili Houses, Ifestio Villas and Armeni Villas.

The decision re superjet vs flying cat has been made for you, as there will be no flying cats between Mykonos and Santorini after the 8th of October. If you are on Mykonos first, then Santorini, brotherleelove's suggestion of SeaJet 2 to Paros and Blue Star from there to Santorini would be my choice, too.

If you are going the other way (Santorini, then Mykonos) your only choice will be Superjet. When planning your itinerary be aware there are a couple of days each week when Superjet doesn't run, so check the timetables in gtp.gr before making hotel reservations.

>best ways to view attractions in myconos(grand hotel) we r not avid walkers<

The Grand is located at Agios Ioannis, a beautiful part of Mykonos. Take some time to have a slow leisurely walk around this area first and absorb the superb views of the Aegean and Delos.

There is a great ‘small bus’ network on the island and its coverage is pretty extensive. In fact, the bus service runs hourly from Agios Ioannis to Ornos then town (15 minutes travel time). That could be your first adventure.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy Mykonos town. It is very beautiful and a great place just to wander through, enjoying getting lost in the narrow streets, stop often for coffee and people-watch. There are many photo opportunities.

Think seriously about taking the boat over to Delos. For me it’s a ‘must see’. The small boats leave the town harbour daily (except a Monday) usually between 8 and 10am returning early to mid afternoon.

Organized island tours are available and sold by a number of agencies. Here’s one to check out:

Lastly, here is the bus network page which lets you see their island routes (the three departure points showing are all in Mykonos town)
