Greece or Croatia

I'm going on my honeymoon in May and we're trying to decide if we should go to Greece or Croatia or both. We'll have a total of two weeks to spend. Any recommendations on what we should decide?

Aside from personal preference, I always let airfare dictate where I go. After all, there are thousands of places to see, but with a precious couple weeks I don't want to be either (1) blowing half my budget on airfare or (2) miserable on three layovers with terrible flight times, etc.
Greece is still on my dream list. I think Greece has more "wow" sites and better food. However, I will visit Croatia for the fourth time this year, and I honeymooned there, so I obviously think it is a good choice. It is more of a subtle, laid back kind of place. So, if you want to see temples and that kind of thing, Greece is the place for you.
Also, how late in May?--only very late May will be beach weather, probably in both places.
Don't do both--do one, very well.

Recommendations based on what? You have provided NO information whatsoever for anyone to consider. That simply leaves everyone to suggest what THEY prefer. You need to provide information on your interests if you want relevant suggestions. Relevant to YOU.

I never let airfare dictate where I go. I go where I am interested in going and it costs what it costs. I agree with only choosing one country not both.

I have been to both and love both. If you choose Greece, I suggest you just stay in Greece, spend a week each in two central locations. It is not super-convenient/cost-effective to travel between Greece and Croatia (and before someone starts yelling in all caps, it is certainly do-able, just not highly convenient logistics/price per my own experience). For my own honeymoon, we ultimately decided to do a week each Italy-Croatia as those were easier to travel between and are both lovely in May (with less tourists).

As for two countries in a short trip, everyone has different travel preferences. Sometimes I get itchy for a new locale after a week and like the adventure of travel. Other times I like to camp out somewhere for a month to just soak it in. Whatever you decide, congratulations.

They are both beautiful countries. We've been to Greece numerous times and Croatia twice and although I'd love to go back to both countries, Greece beckons to me more.

Stick to one country, two weeks is not that long. Don't forget to factor in travel time, it always takes longer to get where you are going than you think.

How about looking at lots of photos online of both countries and see what appeals the most to you?

Agree w/KayF. I have been to both countries and think that Greece would be a lovely honeymoon w/a possible ferry trip to Crete.

LOL, well given that Crete is in Greece, that's an amusing suggestion.

Both countries are beautiful, but Croatia has a much smaller variety of Destinations, compared to Greece. The only interesting and unique place in Croatia is Dubrovnik, ofcourse there are some other beautiful cities and towns, but they all are a miniature of Dubrovnik, they look the same. Greece is a much larger and diverse country, with a much larger variety. There is The Cyclades, The Dodecanese, The Eastern Islands, The Sporades, The Ionian Isands, The Peloponnese, Athens, Macedonia and Epirus, every single region has its very own Culture. Greece also is one of the best (if not the best) Honeymoon Destination, what is more Romantic than staying in a small Aegean island, with charming villages, sandy beaches with crystal blue water, warm weather, and unforgetable sunsets?? Simply nothing.

I have been to both and love them both, but I would pick Greece in a heartbeat. Greece has so much to offer. The only places I would recommend visiting in Croatia are: Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split, Korcula and the Plitvice National Park. After two towns, you would be thinking "Haven't I been here already"? In Greece, you can visit: Athens, Delphi, Sparta, Crete, Epidaurus, Nafplion, Pylos, Mycenae, Hydra and so much more.

Both countries are beautiful. It depends on the vacation you seek!

In 1979 we spent 7 weeks in Greece on our honeymoon. I have not been to Croatia and am considering it for a late Spring vacation but you all are reminding me how heavenly and incredibly gorgeous Greece is. I would choose Greece if I were you.

Both lovely, and each has one of the two most beautiful places I've ever been - Dubrovink and Santorini. You can't go wrong with either.

ptolemy336vv Apr 3rd, 2014 11:53 PM

I have been to both And both beautiful countries to begin with.

But I definitely pick Greece. Greece is one of the or THE most beautiful country I have ever been to and you can ever go to. yes REALLY. I have visited Greece by now 7 times and Greece never fails to amaze me!

Croatia is so much smaller in size, diversity, culture and history. Plitvic and Drubnovic are beautiful to see.

Greece has much more of everything. Greece has 16.000 Km of crystal clear beaches, Much more beautiful and greater mountain sceneries, cultural and natural diversities, castles, temples etc. And much better food.
There is Chalkidiki, The Cyclades, The Dodecanese, The Eastern Islands, The Sporades, The Ionian Isands, The Peloponnese, Athens, Macedonia and Epirus, every single region has its very own Culture. And many religous sites as well that are so immensely beautiful such as Meteora(incredible) or Athos,(life changing).

Greece also is one of the best (if not the best) Honeymoon Destination in the world. The Greek islands on itself are unrivaled and Islands like Santorini alone can compete with any place on the planet as the best honeymoon destination.

The OP has not returned in a month to even acknowledge having read the comments.

dulciusexasperis Apr 5th, 2014 06:49 AM

"You have provided NO information whatsoever for anyone to consider. That simply leaves everyone to suggest what THEY prefer."

I rest my case.

Heimdall Apr 5th, 2014 07:10 AM

Yes, dulciusexasperis, I'm not surprised the OP never returned. Jgalvin was a first-time poster, and could have been shown a little more patience. A "congratulations on your forthcoming marriage" wouldn't have hurt either.
