Greece Itinerary. Santorini, Athens, Meteroa, Litohoro, and Thessaloniki

I have deicded to visit Greece after a week in Italy. I am a female student in her early 20s traveling alone. I have done some research, but would like some help with my itinerary. This is what I have so far:

Sunday Aug 9: Fly from Milan to Athens, arrive 9:50pm. Sleep in Athens Airport (is this safe?)

Monday Aug 10: Fly from Athens to Santorini, depart 5:35am, arrive 6:20am. Rent scooter. Sleep in Santorini

Tuesday Aug 11: Hike from Oia to Fria. Sleep in Santorini

Wednesday Aug 12: Day in Santorini. Fly from Santorini to Athens, depart 8:40pm, arrive 9:25pm. Sleep in Athens.

Thursday Aug 13: Day in Athens. Sleep in Athens.

Friday Aug 14: Day in Athens. Sleep in Athens.

Saturday Aug 15: Train from Athens to Meteroa. Sleep in Meteroa.

Sunday Aug 16: Day in Meteroa. Sleep in Meteroa.

Monday Aug 17: Meteroa to Litohoro. Sleep in Litohoro.

Tuesday Aug 18: Litohoro to Thessaloniki. Sleep in Thessaloniki.

Wednesday Aug 19: Day in Thessaloniki. Sleep in Thessaloniki.

Thursday Aug 20: Fly from Thessaloniki to Munich, depart 8:05 am

My guestions start here.
1. Should I sleep in the airport at Athens on the first night, or should I try to get to a nearby hostel. I'd like to keep it pretty cheap.
2. Should I spend another night in Santorini and cut a night out at Thessaloniki?
3. Getting from Athens to Meteroa , do they run trains? If so, when and how much will they cost?
4. How can I get from Meteroa to Litohoro?
5. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions I should consider? Any advice will be very much appreciated!

Only thing I can address is sleeping in airport -- there' a website about it; consensus is the hallway by the chapel is the best place; people feel safest with a buddy; check out the link:http://www.sleepinginairports.net/li...rios+Venizelos

try http://www.travelingo.org/europe/gre...ce/guide/95153
This site has some train and bus schedules.
I think your transportation route will be from Athens to Kalambaka which is hiking distance from the monasteries at Meteora. We met two young women who took the bus from Athens to Delphi, spent one night there, then on to Kalambaka, spent one night, hiked to the monasteries then took a bus back to Athens. Can't help with your other questions.

Do you have any specific plans for Thessaloniki? There is a fantastic museum there and some nice shopping. It isn't a city that foreign tourists visit to site-see, however. One night there would be fine for you.
