Greece: Island air travel

We were informed that there is NO air service between Rhodes & Santorini, nor Rhodes & Mykonos. You must first fly back from Rhodes to Athens and from there you can fly to the other islands. Is this true ??

Sky Express fly between Rhodes and Santorini. Details are here:-

As far as know there is no direct service between Rhodes and Mykonos. However, Sky Express could get you there via Santorini. They operate a service between Santorini and Mykonos.

Sky Express is a one-plane airline based in Crete (nothing wrong with that, though). I would be interested in hearing feedback from anyone who has used Sky Express.

Other than Sky Express, http://www.airsealines.com/ has a service from Mykonos to Kos. Apart from those, you will have to go back to Athens.

Hello Heimdall!

I hear there service to JMK from Santorini has been busy and no complaints. It is a small plane however, and not too many people can travel at same time. I think, to book flight long time in future is very important.

You can fly between Rhodes and Heraklion, Crete, then take the hydrofoil from Heraklion to Santorini and/or onto Mykonos. However, timewise this is slower than simply flying Rhodes to Athens ( we just did it- takes about 45 minutes) and catching another plane back down to Santorini ( about 30 minutes from Athens).

Thanos, thank you. It's good to hear passengers are happy with their service. Yes they have only an 18 pax turboprop, so booking well in advance would be advisable.

Weadles, did you fly Rhodes to Heraklion on Sky Express? Just a small point, the ferry from Heraklion to Santorini is a catamaran, not a hydrofoil.

Thank you all for your help....much appreciated.
One last inquiry .... Anyone familiar with baggage restrictions on these island-hop planes & are they reliable as far as safety and timeliness?

Heimdall Aug 14th, 2007 12:54 PM

Scroll to the bottom of http://www.skyexpress.gr/terms.asp and you will see their baggage allowance.

Regarding safety and timeliness: Thanos informs us there have been no complaints (I assume he means Sky Express), so I would take his word for it. AirSea Lines is new to the Aegean this year, and I don't know anything about their record yet.

Both airlines operate twin engine aircraft with excellent safety records. I would have no hesitation flying with either on safety grounds.
