Greece in November
 

Greece in November.We don't want to cram too much into the trip. We already know we want to hit several certain sites in Athens and are planning on having 4 days/nights outside Athens. We're thinking of Santorini but are unsure of weather and ferry availability in early November. We don't want to go "sit on the beach" anyway so cooler weather will be fine for us. Does anyone have an alternative 4 day side trip recommendation or is Santorini a good idea. We did receive some good advice from an earlier post on the ferries so thanks to those of you that responded.

If I were heading for Greece in November I wouldn't bother with the islands at all. With four days outside Athens you could take in many of the wonderful sights of the Peloponnese, and possibly Delphi as well. :-)

We spent a week in Crete late November once and had a great time.

I've spent several weeks in Crete in the past. While I think Crete would be great anytime, I don't think 4 days is nearly enough in Crete. Plus, I've read the archaeology museum in Iraklion is closed for several years.

Santorini in November will be a bit boring... 95% of the hotels will be closed, there will be almost no tourists
around, and most restaurants and shops will have closed, waiting for next season to reopen...i am not sure if that's what you are lookinh for.
The only cycladic island with action in the wintertime is Syros, with it's capital Ermoupolis, the capital of the cycladic islands.
Since you will be in Athens, you could spend a weekend on one of the following islands : Spetses or Hydra, they are during the weekends full of Athenians, so restaurants and shops are open, and it won't be boring at all.
Both islands can be easily reached with a hydrofoil, but if you decide to go during a weekend, you should book in advance.
The second option would be as Heimdall very well mentioned a tour of the Peloponnese, which has a number of amazing sites to offer and many beautiful villages and towns.
