I didn`t know that. All the reviews I`ve read are positive and the views look amazing. Not to mention the private jacuzzi on the balcony. I haven`t booked yet but here is a violet suite available for 200 euros a night directly from the hotel.

I just booked the the flight and have decided to stay Sep 12 - Sep 30th instead of the 26th.

This is our new itinerary. Is this enough time on each island?

Sep 12 - 16 Santorini
Sep 16 - 20 Naxos
Sep 20 - 23 Mykonos
Sep 23 - 30 Athens

Just a suggestion... I would cut a few days from Athens and add them to the islands. Unless you're planning on several day trips, 3-4 days should suffice in Athens.

I agree. A week just for Athens is a lot of time, but if you have plans to leave the city for other parts of the mainland then it's fine.

We are thinking about doing day trips to Delphii and/or Napflio but other than that we don't have any plans for other parts of the mainland. I think I'll add another day in Santorini and Naxos.

If you do have an extra day in Athens, take a day trip to Hydra. The hydrofoil only takes 2 hours from the port in Piraeus. It's a great way to easily get another island into your itinerary, and well worth it!

Big2354, what makes Hydra worth a visit is that it's the only island in Greece where cars aren't allowed. Because of this it retains a lot of it's original "old world" charm.

The "modest hotel" I referred to is http://www.argo-hotel.gr. The swimming pool is new since I was last there. Argo is run by a very nice Swedish-Greek family. They will pick you up for free at the ferry docks or airport as long as they know which ferry or flight you arrive on. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the rooms are comfortable. Room prices are very reasonable considering what you are getting. :-)

How long does it typically take to get through customs in Athens? Our flights arrives at 10:30AM and the flight to Santorini departs at 12:00PM. The next flight departs at 2:50PM. Will 90min be enough time?

As long as your inbound flight arrives on time 90 minutes is enough. If you are arriving from outside Schengen you will have to go through passport control, but customs is simply walking through the green exit — I've never seen anyone stopped. How long it takes to get through passport control depends upon how many other non-EU passengers are in line ahead of you. It's never taken more than a few minutes for me, but I usually arrive on an early morning flight from the UK (I am a US passport holder).

If you change planes at another Schengen airport (e.g. Frankfurt) you may have already gone through passport control there. You can speed up getting on the Santorini flight by checking in online and printing out your boarding passes before you leave home. Then all you have to do is leave your bags at the dropoff point and head straight for the departure gate. Athens Airport is compact, so it doesn't take more than about 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other. :-)

I've booked Theodora Suites in Oia.

Any recommendations for hotels in Mykonos? We would like something that is close to the beach and walking distance to the main area, bars and clubs.

We stayed at Poseidon Hotel and Suites in Mykonos several years ago. We thought the location was great, just on the edge of town, so we could walk. The rooms were romantic with sea view and there is a very pleasant salt water pool.

I agree with many things you've already been told. Definitely stay in Oia, which I see you've decided on... Great choice. I also agree that about three days in Athens is good, I personally wouldn't stay longer when it means giving up time somewhere else. Maybe go to Napflio and stay a day or two, or drive up to Meteora and see that part of the mainland. Or, just add days to the islands, which you are thinking about doing. This is your honeymoon, you will be tired from all the planning and excitement and will enjoy the relaxed slower pace of the islands.

I have been to Mykonos quite a few times and, although I am not one to always love the massively touristy places, I do like Mykonos. I have no interest in being there during the height of the season but, in September, it should be very pleasant. Definitely take a day and go to Delos. That's one of the pluses of Mykonos. It's an incredible place and well worth the visit.

Rent a car for at least one of the days you're on Santorini. It's fun to just drive all over and not have to worry about bus schedules and finding taxis. Visit a number of the larger and the very small wineries, visit the many different beaches, definitely go to Akrotiri. Do the hike between Oia and Fira.

Also rent a car for a day on Naxos. Get out into the country side and see the incredible landscape. Visit the Citron distillery that is still working after over 100 years. See the marble quarries, etc.

You're going to have an incredible honeymoon. Lucky you that you have plenty of time to enjoy it and not have to rush. Congratulations!
