Darn ferries! Ok, so drop that day trip, I am sure there is enough to do!

Have a wonderful Time Jamikins... and stay flexible! You may find you want to "tweak" your schedule when you are there... if you have a mobile phone, it's easy to call ahead to the next place & see if u can come a day later, or earlier. If you don't have a mobile that works in Europe, just borrow your landlord's phone & pay him.

PS: Sorry about your frustration with the ferry logistics but (as I am always saying on these forums, to the annoyance of my confreres), the only ways to get around in the Greek isles as fast as you would like would be to have a Flying Carpet, or the ability to walk on water ... and neither of these phenomena has been sighted in the Mediterraneans for 2,000 years or more!

I think you have chosen very well and will have a great vacation.

Have fun and tell us about your experiences when you get back.

Thank you all so much!

Hi stanbr and travelerjan! I got interested in one specific photo that you guys shared (not sure these photos belong to which of you, but they are all very beautiful.) I love the last picture of the beach said "on the way back to Nafplion", do you still remember which beach it is, and is it accessible by car?

Thank you so much!!

Stanbr will answer, because those are his pix... he's a great photographer with an even greater "in-house" editor & webshots expert. I have lots of (half-good) pix but I'm lazy! So I just link people to Stanbr's stuff ... tho I do usually credit them as "wonderful pictures by fellow Fodorite stanbr".

bearbe I am going to have to look at the map to figure out where that photo was taken and it is way too late tonight to do that. I will post again tomorrow. I can say that it is on the coast road on the drive from Sparti back to Nuplion. That area is virtually unknown and is stunning. In May and early June it is almost deserted.

haha...indeed they are "wonderful pictures by fellow Fodorite stanbr"!

Thanks stanbr! looking forward to your answer (Not in a hurry!) And I'll be there at the end of May, hurray for that!

jamikins my apologies for hijacking your thread but I think you were done.

Normally Jan and I take care not to post the same album on the same thread. In this case it looks like we were both writing at the same time.
As for that picture. You have to realize that once we got off the main roads we are really not sure exactly where we are at any particular time. Lollypeter is an excellent photo editor, as a navigator not so much.
Anyway as I reconstructed the route, we left Sparti and passed through a very challenging mountain road and came out to the coast at Leonidi. We passed Tiros and came upon that incredible sight at Aggia Dimitrios. I am only guessing mind you but that seems the most likely place. The next town was Astros and I know for sure the location was south of Astros.
There likely was a side road to the windmills but you certainly could not drive down to the beach.

By the way there are often posts asking for recommendations for a quiet out of the way place, well this whole coast particularly the area around Tiros really fits that description, in early June anyway.

I just found a second album with some additional pictures of the coastal road heading into Nauplion. They are at the end of the album.

I can't imagine going to Greece and the Greek islands and not going to Santorini - yes its touristy but as KayF says its spectacular! There really is no other place like it......
