Greece:good and bad things

I am from Greece and I 'm very curious of what is the best and the worst thing coming into your mind when you are thinking about my country!I am waiting for your replies!!!

The best: The creamy joghurt. The worst: The unsalted bread.

best: Socrates worst: nothing comes to my mind

I am married to a Greek born but brought up in Oz. She lived in Athens for 18mths a few years back and loved the relaxed life style - islands on weekend etc, but like lots and lots of Greek-Australians get annoyed about how difficult it is to get things done (especially where govt departments are concerned) there without knowing someone - something Athens olympic coverage has not exactly suggested is a wrong impression.

The good: The friendly people tzatsiki Simi & Nisiros The bad: Baggage claim at Athens airport during a strike!

Having only spent less than 3 weeks in Greece in late Sept., my list is only of favorites rather than best (much left to see): Athens (particularly the museums and the city at night) Nafplion The Greek people The food and lengthy outdoor dinners Santorini Lindos without crowds Ferries Delos The museum at ancient Corinth Driving around the Peloponnese The only negative was not enough time and all of the islands seen from the ferry but not visited. Someday, I hope to visit your wonderful country again.

The best? Sun, sea, people, tavernas, pace of life; just BEING there. The worst? (better than they used to be tho') the toilets!

I'm with Sheila on the best things, especially "just BEING there" The worst: I don't mind the toilets - it's the little plastic bins next to them that I'm not keen on ;-) but worse than that has to be coming home.

The welcoming people, the sense of history (Delos, Olympia, Parthenon, wow!), great sailing were all among the best. I loved Santorini and Nauplion. OTOH, I found the food to be rather monotonous and often 'heavy', and did not at all like the ice cream made with goat milk. Olympic Airways was just dreadful (both international and in-country flights). The plusses outweigh the minusses, and I will go back.

Spectacular scenery, delightful people. Worst- Infrastructure in Athens

Hi, There are many wonderful things about Greece: the people, the scenery, the sea, the relaxed attitude to life, the historical sites, the people, and ofcourse, the people. the bad: the traffic in Athens on a bad day and dangerous driving (often by tourists as well as Greeks). Where is Greece are you from?

Best: Breathtaking scenery, incredible history, generally friendly people, the serenity of it all Worst: Toilets, driving, rude rude rude waiters if you're blonde and they think you're German, ridiculously high prices these days because of the EU - it's basically still a fairly backward European country but now you have to pay the same thing for ínferior stuff that you'd pay in France or Italy. In between: The food ranges from brilliant to gross. Too much starch, too heavy (particularly in summer - who wants a slab of moussaka when dining in the port of Patmos on a balmy evening?), but some lovely surprises such as tsatsiki and freshly grilled octopus and incredible yogurt and honey breakfasts... Overall, it's a country that has retained enough of its traditions to be fascinating to most Americans, but has not entered the modern world enough to make most Americans completely comfortable - unless they just spend their time at some resort and then go home. And then there's that pesky political thing that most Americans don't even follow in the news - Greek politicians better get a handle on that if they truly want to promote tourism. It ain't the safest place in the world - though where is, right now?

Re. the above message: exactly why is Greece "not safe"? And, if you don't want moussaka, then way order it, there are always plenty of other choices available. The fact that it is available for those who do want it shouldn't be cause for complaint.
