Greece Ferry Schedules - 2010

The 2010 ferry schedules are posted for the most part. I am hoping that they will add more times/days for June to the Crete (Heraklion)/Santorini route. Does anyone know whether this happens or are the posted routes the only ones available? if that's the case, I'll either need to fly to Athens from Crete and then on to Santorini (which I would not want to do), or change my itinerary and hotel stays.

The Greek ferries are run by a variety of companies. Some publish schedules far in advance and others don't. Which schedules are you looking at?

"The 2010 ferry schedules are posted for the most part." Not true.

The Hellenic Seaways and Sea Jets schedules for Heraklion>Santorini have not yet been released. These are the two companies that provide daily service. That service will commence just before Greek Easter weekend (April 3-4) and extends into October sometime. There will be some Wednesdays when the HS ferry will not be operating. You can see last year's HS schedule here: http://www.ferries.gr/hfd

To give you an idea, last year Hellenic Seaways published their FlyingCat 4 timetables in mid-March, and Sea Jets Consortium their timetables in April. As long as you don't plan to change islands on a Wednesday, you will have no trouble getting from Heraklion to Santorini any day in June. The no-sail days are roughly every other Wednesday throughout the summer.

Thank you, thank you all for your quick responses. I was hoping you would all tell me that there will be more timetables. That would explain as to why I couldn't find any high speed ferries. I can stop hyperventilating!!!

Is there a way to see the high speed ferry schedule from 2009 that goes from Athens to Santorini?? I am hoping to take the high speed line on May 30, 2010 and I read that the high speed ferries don't start running until June--is this true??

That schedule isn't available yet but when it is you can see it here: http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/npgres/english

I'm not sure when that service begins so just keep checking.

Usually Hellenic Seaways begins their highspeed service to Santorini in April, but not necessarily daily. I don't have last year's timetables, but in 2008 Highspeed 3 began on Apr 17th, Sundays departing Piraeus at 1400, and arriving on Santorini around 1830. Then, on May 30th, Highspeed 5 took over, departing Piraeus at 0705 and arriving on Santorini around 1130. Look for this year's timetables to be released late March - early April.

Is there a reason noone suggests taking the Sea Jet "superjet" as a high speed option? I see that their schedule is out.

brotherleelove2004 Mar 11th, 2010 10:41 AM

Hesitation to recommend Sea Jets is because of past issues with reliability.

Would you recommend ordering tickets online (for any company), or is it best to wait until you are in Athens?

brotherleelove2004 Mar 11th, 2010 11:12 AM

It's not a problem to wait since you're going in May, the ferries won't be full then. But if your travel dates are fixed and you prefer to order in advance, once the schedules are published you can order online from the Amphitrion Holidays website and pick up your ferry tickets when you first arrive at the airport from their travel desk in the Arrivals hall between Exit/Entry doors 2&3. Ferry ticket prices are fixed but they do charge a fee of a couple of Euro for advance purchase and pickup. You can also just go to AH when you arrive and buy them then and there without pre-ordering.
