Greece- Covid implications
We have a flight booked to Greece at the end of August- to Santorini (return 10 days later). We have booked the first and last night in Santorini and intend to travel from there to other Cycladian islands. We have made the bookings ourselves. Please can you help me with two things
1) If we are pinged in Greece how do we quarantine and do the necessary testing? We are not going to be in any one place for 10 days. If we are able to stay in the hotel where we are , how do we deal with obtaining food and ( if necessary) medical assistance? 2) If we test positive when leaving the country do we have to arrange our own quarantine? We are both fully jabbed and have the paperwork to prove it. Thanks Frances |
As you seem to be from the UK, here is the advice from the FCDO:
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...ce/coronavirus Mykonos currently has a very high Covid-19 infection rate, at 3000.98 cases per 100,000. Most of the other Cycladic islands are much lower. |
Good morning.
Thank you for this link. We live in Wales and have not yet "unlocked " to the same extent as England. Also looking at the way the figures are going, the chances of either a notification or a positive test whilst abroad are increasing daily. I think that there is probably a high risk that we will not be allowed to go. Frances |
Hi Frances,
I live in eastern England, and although fully vaccinated, won’t be travelling anywhere this summer. IMO Wales is wise to be more cautious than England in opening up. Greece is eager to keep tourism going this summer after a very slow season last year, and is welcoming visitors from the UK. Since you already have your flights booked, suggest you continue with your planning, but avoid non refundable bookings. Naxos and Paros would be a good choice of islands along with Santorini, and you can wait until arriving on Santorini to book your ferry tickets. End of August is a good time to travel to Greece, because many holidaymakers will be returning home in time for the start of their children’s school year, leaving some hotel vacancies. |
