Greece: Boat,Bus or Train?

We'll be in Greece for 12 days in Sept. Fodors describes the area's to visit - but how should we travel from one location to next? Looks like driving is out. Any suggestions on transportation? Are there any good "tours" that simply offer xport? We love out of the way locations.
Thanks!

If you're travelling on the mainland and there's a railway line between the 2 places you're travelling, then that's probably the quickest and most comfortable way to travel (apart from by air, which for some reason you fail to mention). If there's no railway line, then you'll have to go by bus. If you want to travel between islands or mainland/island, then I'm afraid trains and buses don't travel across water, except over bridges or on ferries, so it looks like a ferry will probably be necessary. Duh???

No need to get sarcastic, xxx. There are flights between many of the islands, as well as flights between Athens and the islands.

Richard, we flew between Athens and Rhodes, Rhodes and Santorini, and finally Naxos and Athens. But it sounds as though maybe you're talking about the mainland.

Any particular reason to rule driving out? We had 5 days/nights to explore Arachova, Delphi, Ossios Loukas, Olympia, Bassae, Nafplio, Argos, Miceanae, Tiryns, Mistras, Epidavros, AkroKorinth and quite a few small fine villages and I can't imagine how one could manage it based on public transportation!

Paulo

Here are some websites that might be helpful:

http://www.gtp.gr (for ferries)
http://www.ktel.org (for buses)
http://www.ose.gr (for trains)

The www.ose.gr site quite frequently doesn't work, however.

Thanks for the info. Looks like we'll fly between islands - after browsing other messages we should be able to get decent airfares. And on the mainland we'll probably train it. Fodors website mentioned we need an Intl drivers license and discouraged driving.
