Another vote for Three Chimney's on Skye. Fantastic food. Charming atmosphere. <BR><BR>Also on Skye, I like the Flodigarry Inn for tea after a nice hike on the Quirang. Really great selection of sandwiches/cakes in a funky faded glory of a Victorian inn. <BR><BR>Around Argyll, I can recommend the Waterfront Restaurant in Oban. I had some of the best halibut I have ever tasted there... actually, my husband had it and I kept stealing from his plate. My langoustines were tremendous too... mmmmmmm and the sun-dried tomato risotto. <BR><BR>Those are three of the true stand-outs. There is a great book called a Taste of Scotland which goes through the many wonderful restaurants all over. Well worth taking a look at, especially if you are a foodie going up there...

Prestonfield House is, as clayrr says, only a few minutes south on Dalkeith Road which is (I think) the A7 south out of Edinburgh. I just looked at www.viamichelin.com and it's actually located on Priestfield.<BR><BR>. . . the best Chicken Chasseur appetizer I've ever had . . .

Well I was planning on taking my mother to Prestonfield House in 2003. My mom really like the idea of an evening of entertainment and this sounded like a classy (not totally touristy tacky) way to do it. But if Sheila hasn't been in 20 years - maybe I'll change my mind!

One in Edinburgh which is starting to build up a reputation is The Stockbridge Restaurant on St Stephen's Street in the New Town.
If you don't mind going (quite) a bit away from Edinburgh for a good meal, I'd recommend Ostler's Close Restaurant in Cupar - they use mainly local ingredients and one of the desserts is a "chocolate plate" - chocolate served in several forms (mousse, cake, etc - you get the picture.) |
In Argyll is recommend the Crinan Hotel, particularly the restaurant at the top. Freshest anf finest seafood around. Pricey but well worth it. Prob best location as well!
