Most theatres are shut on Sundays.

If you appreciate good drama I recommend the National Theatre (www.nationaltheatre.org.uk).

If your date is 2,3,5,6,7,8, 9 or 10, see 'Theatre of Blood' (http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/?l...325030ecd6dec4).

Otherwise you can use the calendar/day by day facility to see what else is on for your date.

Great show - "The Woman in White":
If you like musicals, I'd highly recommend getting tickets to this show. It's done by Andrew Lloyd Webber. We saw it last September with Michael Crawford. The staging is very unique, done mostly with photography, as opposed to physical sets. The music is wonderful, as is the plot.

If you will be there during the day, you might stuff in a matinee as well as an evening performance.

As an old choir teacher, I always like the musicals, but there is a tremendous variety. If you like music, Les Miserables, Phantom, The Producers are all wonderful. Joseph and the Tech Dream Coat (an old Andrew Lloyd Weber) is on now, but closing early Oct. I know you can get it half-price.

There is a variety to choose from in London right now. I am not sorry I saw "The Woman in White," but did not like it quite as much as joearena99 did. I did not enjoy the photographic set designs at all--in fact, they made me a little dizzy. But the show was still worth seeing. Anthony Andrews is now playing the Michael Crawford role.
We also enjoyed "As You Like It," which has been set in post-war France--a nice choice if you enjoy Shakespeare.
I did not care for the current production of "Phantom of the Opera" at all---it seemed stale and tired to me, although I know other people on the board have liked it.
We also saw "Chicago," which was well done, but be advised that it is a concert version, with the orchestra (terrific, by the way) onstage during the show--just so you know. We enjoyed it a lot--very strong performances.
My personal recommendation would be for "Les Miserables." I thought it was amazing that this current cast is giving such a fresh, energetic, and passionate performance in a show that has been running for 20 years. I've seen "Les Miz" at least five times before, and this was the best I've ever experienced. I honestly thought about buying tickets for another night.
We bought our theater tickets at the half-price booth at Leicester Square, which is a terrific bargain. We never had to wait in any line either.
However, with only one night in London, you may be best off ordering tickets in advance. The hot tickets now seem to be "Guys and Dolls," with Ewan McGregor, "The Lion King" and "Mary Poppins." Naturally, none of those were available half-price, although "The Producers" was, if you are interested in that.

If you like drama/mystery, I'd recommend The Woman in Black or the old running favorite Agatha Christie's, The Mousetrap. I enjoyed both plays very much, especially The Mousetrap as I have read all her books.
