Great Last Night Restaurant In London!
hi all,
I am posting this seperately because I wanted to make a recommendation to all who are going to london. One of our problems was finding a really good restaurant for our last night celebration. We had some suggestins, but things just weren't clicking. We knew we wanted to spend it at a restaurant with a view, possibly on the river thames, but I had a real problem forking out 70 pds per person for a river dinner cruise when the menus were so bad. (they are...god!) Then someone on this board made a recommendation for Hispaniola Restaurant. At first, I was thinking spanish food, and I just kind of passed it. Then a second recommendation for that restaurant came out during some of my research and I decided to check on it. Hispaniola Restaurant is a moored stationary boat restaurant on the river Thames at Victoria Embankment. It services lunch and dinner, has a piano bar and parties or groups. It boasts a great view of the abbey and st pauls and views across the river. What finally settled it...their prices and menu...it has something for everyone who wants a reasonable nite out! Now if you are looking cheap cheap of course this is not...but moderately expensive it is! Look at this menu! Not only does it have a great selection a la carte, but it also has several set menus under 30 pounds. I just don't think I have seen anything this wonderful and moderate anywhere else and I wanted to share it with all. erinb, lord, child. You sho do knows hows to flush out a right pretty winner! Where else are you eating on your trip?
|
Degas baby!
Now, you know, this woman is not gonna go without good eats! Hey, life is toooo short to waste time on bad funky food! God, will you look at the desserts, I may have to have two....and the price on the filet is great for london!,,hell,,its great for here...we may have to just pull anchor and move that restaurant! (or I could kidnap the chef in the states!(wink!)) As you know, we are having lunch saturday at the orangery at kensington gardens, then a special tea at Brown's hotel on Tuesday and then post theatre dinner at Rock Garde.... I knew I had the right restaurant to follow Momma mia and Abba when I read the following piece in a review at the restaurant guide site: http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/review_1164.html "If I had one complaint it would be that the portion itself was slightly larger than you?d expect or require from a starter and could catch the unwary off-guard leaving them uncomfortably stuffed by the end of a three-course affair." Now does that not tell it all! I will try to find their menu and post it! I will let you know how they "pan" out!!lololol |
hey,
that last restaurant was the Rock Garden! I missed a key...too busy thinking about them desserts! |
=P~ mmmm, sticky toffee cake, oh wait, the apple crumble has vanilla sauce, oooh, creme brulee, but man, that sticky toffee cake =P~
|
Did you need a reservation? We are going back to London in November - will be in there on a Friday and Saturday night. Thinking either pre-show or after-show. Sounds great!
|
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, sounds great. it's on the list, thank you!

hey donna and flygirl,
Yes, both restaurants need advance booking. I am still waiting to hear on the Hispaniola for our last night...(that is the one the menu is posted for). What I like about this one is the set and buffet menu choices...they have several and to fit most pocketbooks. Donna, at the Hispaniola, they begin seating at 6:30 so that would be too late for pre theatre dinner and that's the reason we choose to do that restaurant our last night...the view and all makes it a perfect last night occasion. It's possible that you could have a late seating for a post theatre dinner because I think on friday or saturday they serve till 11pm., with a bar/night club open til much later. We chose the Rock Garden for our post theatre dinner and they also need reservations. I will try to find that menu and post it here in a few minutes. Heather...you know it girl...toffee...I can't decide on that one or the chocolate rum mousse....I just do not know... |
Erinb: Thanks for the suggestion of the Rock Garden - found their website and the menu looks good - so do the prices. Is the food very good? We have theater tickets for Friday and Saturday nights and were hoping to find good restaurants in the area. Maybe we can have lunch at Hispaniola. Any other suggestons?
|
Sounds a trifle naff and stuck in the late 70s/80s? Not a place locals go to I am sure.
|
M kingdom - where would you suggest?
|
okay. i'll bite..what does naff mean?
|
naff = not cool, dorky.

Richard Neat's isn't bad, Anything remotely associated with Gordon Ramsey is excellent. Sketch, if you can get a table is worth seeing - cutting edge cuisine, but not really worth the extremely high prices.
Anywhere with a star or two (three if you can) will generally serve exceptional food. |
Hope you have a great time, but I strongly suspect the set menus - particularly the buffet ones - are available for functions only.
