Hi mwoodrowe,

I'd suggest reposting with a more descriptive title. Something like "Great Eats in London and Edinburgh Without Breaking the Bank."

Fodor's dumps all the Europe posts into the general Europe forum, so this way you might get more helpful answers.

and when you re-post - include what sort of budget you are talking about. What breaks one persons bank might be a drop in the bucket to someone else.

And by good local food - do you mean "olde" English in London and Scottish in Edinburgh - or do you mean just good food. (London is a MASSIVE city and has every type of cuisine imaginable)

European restauranteurs cater to specific clienteles. I have seen English families spend three hours in a hotel on a Sunday eating breakfast. I have seen businessmen wolfing down a burger from McDonald's as they hurried to a meeting. What do you eat at home? Fish, meat or vegetables? How long are your meals? Poles start meals with a bowl of flaki soup. Make a list of your favorite foods and then try to find restaurants serving similar dishes. Inquire of your housing host as to local food stars.

While I was in the UK, I really enjoyed vegetable burgers served in pubs. The patties were made fresh and tasted absolutely delicious! Pubs usually serve cheap food, and you can definitely find many that serve haggis while in Scotland. If you want local food, I'd definitely recommend that dish.

London boasts some great ethnic food too for a reasonable cost. I loved eating the Indian food over there...so spicy and delicious! Brick Lane is the home to many ethnic restaurants, so I recommend that area.
