Pylones is a store that has crazy "home" items. Not really toys, but in silly colors and designs. Fun souvenirs and gifts...

I like the idea of food stuff souveniers.
The mustards and oils sound yummy.
Are these found at Monoprix?

Sarastro Feb 20th, 2009 07:38 AM

This list is for shopping in France:

1. Essence of Lavender - Traveling through Provence, I happened upon a farmer on his tractor and asked about his lavender fields. He sold me a liter bottle of lavender oil for 20€. I don't think I could buy a liter of lavender in the US at any price. It's a lifetime supple

2. Lucques olives from Langue d'Oc - may be purchased in jars and are the most flavorful olives I have ever tasted.

3. Herbes de Provence - cheap to purchase in any French grocery store yet sometimes difficult to find in the US. Wonderful sprinkled on grilled foods.

4. Fleur de Sel - another vote (already mentioned)

5. Liquor de Maquis - from Corsica distilled from local, low growing plants

6. Fabrics from Provence.

7. Inexpensive soaps and bath oils from Monoprix

8. Faïence (pottery) from Quimper or Moustier

9. Laguiole knives but only the Calmels or David brand names

10. Mephisto shoes purchased at the factory outlet store in Sarrebourg

jetsetj - This should give you an idea:

These 100% cotton fabrics are not of sufficient weight for upholstery applications but are good for walls, draperies, slip covers, accent cushions, and even shirts.

WOW these fabrics are great.
my DH is going to be upset with you :)

I cant wait to look at all of them.

jetsetj - no problem with the husband. Next time you're in Paris, leave him in the basement of the BHV. Its a man's paradise, he'll be content for hours and thank you for days.

jetsetj Feb 21st, 2009 12:07 PM

What can he expect to find in BHV?
We have never been in there.

StCirq Feb 21st, 2009 12:11 PM

Oh, BHV's basement is one of the coolest shopping venues on earth! I've spent hours there. It's kind of a mix of a hardware store and a home design store. I've bought Limoges porcelain doorknobs, garden ornaments, hooks...all kinds of little household stuff.

And I'm not sure they still do this, but they used to have a sort of coffee bar where hunky French guys would do demonstrations of how to fix things around the house and you could enjoy a café and pastry and listen to them.

StCirq--You just filled one of our days this summer, thanks!

Thanks for this tip.

DH actually likes to go shopping.
He is a patient and kind man :)

jetsetj Feb 21st, 2009 01:08 PM

I forgot to ask if BHV ships to USA?

jetsetj Feb 21st, 2009 01:12 PM

BHV also has a dog boutique. There's alot of fashion there. I bought clothes there when my luggage didn't arrive with me.

Sarastro Feb 21st, 2009 03:33 PM

I am not sure that this is necessarily a great buy but it certainly is a great gift available only in Paris. I'm saving to buy one for my daughter:
