Great Airfare Sale JFK to MXP

Emirates and Delta are both running a fantastic special right now - RT JFK to MXP for two people. Total cost is $798.

We took advantage of this deal with Emirates in May 2015, as did several other Fodorites. You have to book by January 16th, and fares are good from January 24th to mid-May and September through the end of November.

There are some GREAT airfares right now. We just bought our tickets SEA > ATH for August 2017.

The news had a story the other night about airfares going up in a few weeks. If you haven't purchased your summer travel tickets yet, I would do so very soon.

Lock in those great rates!!

There have recently been lots of bargains going into Milan. There are sometimes also excellent prices in 1st class. I think they're trying to promote Malpensa, which is an airport that's never lived up to its promise.

Malpensa is an excellent airport but has never lived up to its promise due to the stupidity of Alitalia and the Italian Government.

The North of Italy is one of the most industrious and wealthy regions of Europe with companies trading all over the world. The Government starved Malpensa of the necessary investment in terms of road and rail links followed by the short sighted decision by Alitalia to concentrated intercontinental links through Rome Fiumicino.

Many in the north of Italy were loyal to Alitalia but when the decision was made to concentrate flights through Rome a lot of businessmen started to explore alternatives such as flying to their final destination via Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, CDG, Amsterdam, etc. Once they had experienced the superior strike-free service they left Alitalia for good. Ad all this was before the competition from the big Middle East 3.

Alitalia's problems are fundamentally due to a Rome-centric approach. It's almost as if everyone from NY should fly to Dulles before an intercontinental flight.

I realize that I am 2 months behind on this post, but I'll see if I can get any responses. I am looking at airfare to Milan from NE Ohio & unfortantely didn't see the airfare from NY to MXP. We are planning to fly into Milan around 9/11, 9/26 fly to Lisbon from Bologna, return to US from Lis 10/1ish. I have 3 options for airports;
1) CAK,10 min from my house ( can be dropped off, so no need to pay for parking)
2) drive 1+ hr to CLE & pay for parking
3) drive 2+ hr to PIT & pay for parking

I generally fly out of our local airport unless I can get a great price out of CLE. In addition to price, I am fussy & look for only 1 stop. I have been following airfare on Kayak & Google flights. The prices are around 1300+ for 1 stop out of CAK, CLE just a slight difference. I'm not seeing any drop in prices & it's making me crazy. I have checked flying into MUC, VCE, FLR, FCO, but prices are much the same.

Am I looking too far out? I like to start looking well ahead so that I can have a good idea of the prices & can jump on if I see a price drop. Am I missing something? Any suggestions? I've also played with in & out of MXP, skipping LIS. FYI, we are traveling by train from Milan to Cinque Terre, Siena, ending up in Bologna.

I look forward to your responses!
