GRANDE BRETAGNE
Please could someone give me their own experience of the REFURBISHED Grande Bretagne.
I know this is my third or fourth post about it, but it is quite an expensive commitement if I go ahead and book it, I just want to be sure that it is worth it! Many thanks!!! |
Hi, in what city is this hotel located?
|
Sorry forgot to mention that this hotel is in ATHENS
|
It wasn't refurbished when I was there, but I would stay there again. It is centrally located and has some great view rooms.
|
Rather than post a question over and over, please post a reply of any kind ("Anyone?" or "ttt") and that will bring it right back to the top again.
|
Thanks for your opinion on the hotel prior to refurbishment, but I was lookin for details on its post-refurb standards!
Also does the bar mix good drinks and the "Corner" serve good food? |
I suggest you might consider telling us what the "alternative" if any accommodations are. "Mixing a good drink" is about as subjective as you can get and to ask the question in that way will probably bring a host of equally subjective replies. On the other hand, if you asked whether or not this hotel's bar is as good as the one at the Athens Intercontinental you might get more useable info. Just a thought and I hope you get enough info to make a final decision.

Thank you for your input. Really I'm after anyone's experience of any aspect of the REFURBISHED hotel even if they were a construction worker on it!!

No one in this forum has stayed here?
|
Refurbished ,...is not the exact word.
The Grande Bretagne has been literally re-builded keeping only the 'facade' and its fabulous winter garden. The corner has been replaced by a more formal restaurant. The rooms are outstanding(furniture/amenities etc) and the bathrooms are fabulous.Worth to pay a premium for a suite or a superior room. End of july there will be a new swimming pool and a roofgarden with an allday restaurant with the best view in Athens! The service is quite performant for its new start up. and finally among the connaisseurs,...Starwood in Athens has-by far- won the race against Hilton (as the remodelled hilton has been a disappointment as far as service/F&B are concerned (huge delays for the pool etc...) |
Finally someone! thank you
|
Does anyone else want to offer their opinion?
Thank you |
I am planning to visit the Grande Bretagne also, from what I found in my research I feel is worth it...for the location, service, history, ambiance. |
|
When are you planning to visit, and what room and rate have you managed to get?
Im going in December and have got a premium deluxe for 280 EUR per night. |
We stayed one night at the Grande Bretagne in August 2000 on the last night of a Trafalgar tour. It is a classic luxury city hotel, like the Plaza in NY. Much fancier than we usually select as independent travelers. It was an experience, more interesting for the history and the elegant lobby than for the bedroom, which was very nice, but not extraordinary. It was certainly better than the Amalia where we spent about 3 days at the beginning of the tour.

I will be using Starwood points..it is the best deal. Do you have any Starwood points to use ? If you do not maybe you want to sign up for an American Express Starwood card, I belive today is the last day to get extra points just to sign up. |
In reply to flofreida I believe that when you stayed there it was not refurbished, but thank you for your comments anyway.
I'd need nearly a quater of a million starwood points for free nights and these would not include breakfast! Is there anyone else who has stayed at the Grande Bretagne since March '03? If so I'd love to hear from you! |
Any more offers?
|
Can I squeeze any more responses out of this forum?
