Granada, Spain

My daughter lives in Rota and we're planning a one night stay in Granada at the end of November. We'll probably visit the Alhambra. We'd really like to see a Flamenco show and read about the gypsy Flamenco show in the cave. Is it worth seeing?

Also, if we take the southern route from Rota to Granada along the coast will we have enough time to stop in Gibraltar on the way and still get to see the Alhambra in Granada?
And is there anything else we should see along that coastal drive?

Thanks for any help!

For driving times, use Google map or viaMichelin, giving your two end points and any intermediate points you wish.

The flamenco in the caves up in Sacromonte can be fun and high quality, but there will be mostly tourists in the audience.

If you want a more genuine excperience, take a look at these suggestions: http://matadornetwork.com/nights/top...bs-in-granada/

My recommendation would be to go for the Thursday night performance at Peña Flamenca La Platería, the oldest exisiting flamenco club in Spain. In the Albaycín district close to the center and Plaza Nueva. This would be the real deal, and you could be up for an excperience to remember for very long. Sometimes they also have performances on Saturday nights. The performances starts at 10.30pm and the entrance is only some 10-12€ with one drink included. Also a restaurant, make reservations ahead. http://www.laplateria.org.es/

One of the greatest up and coming flamenco dancers in the world today, Patricia Guerrero, literally grew up here, and the greatest local flamenco artists perform here on a regular basis. This clip gives you an idea of the place and the atmosphere. Here, the extremely popular singer Diana Navarro from Málaga performs. She is not a traditional flamenco singer, but she has a beautiful voice and are fully capable of creating magic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgPrfjinEgQ

So, my suggestion would be to do Granada on a Thursday!

Yes kimhes advice is right on. There is nothing like an experience in the caves of Sacromonte. It is a Gypsy neighborhood and some people are offput by that. It is the heart of Flamenco and in Granada it's all authentic. Nowadays the shows in the caves in Sacromonte are for tourists so keep that in mind. The penas kimhe suggested will probably have more locals and less tourists, that's why I love that idea. You can make the drive on the ooast in a long day but you might be letdown by what you see. I would skip Gibraltar but that's just me.

Is the Sacromonte are "safe" at night?

Was interested in taking pictures of the Alhambra from there lit up at night.
