Does anyone have comments regarding Hotel Guadalupe vs Hotel America in Granada?

We need to be close to the Alhambra due to early tour- 8:30 a.m.

Advice appreciated.

I assume you have ruled out the parador as too expensive or were unable to get in. The America is really just as close and if the Guadalupe is the one across from it (or nearby) then location shouldn't be an issue.

I am sorry I cannot comment on the rooms, etc., since I've only stayed at the parador.

Yes, thank you for responding. The parador is two expensive (we need two rooms)- so I am looking for hotels that are equally as close. We are considering both hotels but want feedback on which hotel is better. Tripadvisor comments suggest that neither hotel is consistently great. The comments suggest that the location is great for both hotels but the rooms and plumbing sound questionable.

Anyone else have experience with either of these hotels?

We stayed at the Hotel America in 2004 and it was perfectly adequate. Our room was small, clean, and functional. If you are driving you can drive to the door of the Hotel America to offload your luggage but then you must park in one of the main Alhambra parking lots.

Not sure if you´ve already booked, but I stayed at Guadalupe last summer. It wasn´t anything special, but definitely worked for me. I wouldn´t recommend staying there for more than a night or so since there isn´t anything around the hotel aside from the Alhambra (which is DIRECTLY across the street). I didn´t have any problems with my stay at all.

Hi! I just stayed at the Hotel Guadalupe last week and can't praise it highly enough -- cheap, tiny but decent room, helpful staff and fine breakfast with a view from the dining room window to boot. It's also easy to reach (I didn't even have the address but just followed signs to the Alhambra to find it directly across the street, then parked the car in the Alhambra lot overnight at a discounted rate).

We arrived late afternoon and after checking into the hotel took the little bus down to Plaza Nueva in town. I was skeptical but the bus was a snap and we had a great tapas dinner near the plaza. Next morning it was wonderful to just have breakfast and walk about five minutes over to the Alhambra. We left town about four hours later, picking up our bags at Guadalupe and happily exiting amid the hordes of arriving tourists.

I must say I would have liked another day or two to explore Granada itself, but if I had stayed I think it would have been very easy to hop the bus from the Guadalupe into town for sightseeing.

I guess that the good thing of the America and the Parador , I have stayed in both and have never even pay attention where is the Guadalupe, is that you are right there in the Alhambra and that at night you can easily go for a night tour or whatever.
But I have to agree with lincasanova, most other hotels are a few minutes from the Alhambra. I have stayed for instances in hotels at the bottom of the hill in the so called Plaza Nueva and a couple of Euros by taxi or less than one Euro by bus it is all that I needed to be in the Alhambra in two minutes.
B y the way can any one explain to me where is the Hotel Guadalupe located ?

Why don't you think of staying in hostels the ones in Granada are nice and are inexpensive and you can find ones with bathrooms inside the room and I believe there is one overlooking the alhambra www.spainhostels.com has info about many hostels throughout Spain and connects you to their webpages.

Hotel Guadalupe is at the top of the hill as well. If you´re going up the hill and the Alhambra is on your left, Hotel Guadalupe will be on your right up just a little bit. I believe it might be directly next to the parking lot for the Alhambra. It is definitely VERY close.

As I mentioned. . . I was just at Hotel Guadalupe last week and it's across the street from the Alhambra, I'd say less than a 5-minute walk in one direction to the entrance and in the other direction to the parking lot. So easy! And the bus into town stops out front.
