Granada hotel options
 

My husband and I are planning a trip to Spain with a brief (5-6 day) auto tour of Andalucia. We plan to pick the car up in Seville, spend a couple of days driving from Seville to Granada, spend a couple of days in Granada then drop the car off in Cordoba. In Granada we are considering the Hotel America and the Best Western. The Best Western is half the price but what about parking? Any insight would be appreciated. And what are the opinions on the Best Western in Seville? Thanks for your help and insight.

I stayed at the Best Western Dauro II in Granada in Feb 2008. It was fine, a bit impersonal (in terms of decor) but clean and well-located. Can't help you with the parking situation though. Can you contact the hotel and inquire?

it was lovely and has a roof top terrace with amazing views. They gave us info for an underground car park and you can either get a cab from there or walk to the hotel. Very easy booking and lovely helpful staff....

The America is just a few steps from the Alhambra entrance which is probably why it costs as much as it does.

I actually don't have much of an opinion on either place, but the America is located in the Alhambra, next to the Palace of Charles V. Parking would be outside of the Alhambra. The only parking inside is at the Parador.

The location of the Best Western Hotel Dauro II is fine, but it does not indicate that it has parking on-site. The AC Hotel Granada does have parking, as does the AC Palacio de Santa Paula.

Dauro II has no own parking, but has an arrangement with a nearby garage at the cost of 14.45 euro/day.
But I'd hate to have to drive into the old centre of Granada where the hotel is situated, as it would simply be a nightmare - one-way streets, heavy traffic, poor signs, and some roads blocked for access - you need to pick up a phone to speak to your hotel to ask them to lift the barrier. I can recommend hotels in the very centre only to those arriving without a car.
Other than Hotel America (you pay a lot for location), Guadalupe is handily located for Alhambra and you get around 25% discount (12.50 euro) for parking in enormous Alhambra lots.

My favorite, favorite hotel of all time is in Cordoba. It's a five star hotel, but it was super inexpensive for a five star. It was worth going to Cordoba just to stay there.

I wish I had stayed in the old part of town in Granda, so you might want to look at hotels in that area. I would drop the car off in Granada and get another when when you leave. Paying for parking and a rental in Granda when you wont use it seems silly. Make sure to get Advanced tickets for the alhambra. Enjoy.

Our car hire was so cheap in Spain, that just leaving it in the car park worked fine...not really worth the hassle of off hiring and picking up again....

i was jsut going to recommend the hotel we stayed in in Granada - the guadalupe - and found Alec got in first. it' right opposite the alhambra, you get discounts for the huge alhambra car park, and if you follow the signs for the alhambra, you get to avoid driving throguh the town.

although it was about 3 years ago so prices may be a bit out of date, we got a huge bedroom with full bathroom for €60/night. the hotel was fine, the restaurant very nice, and did a good breakfast. you can get a bus from outside the alhambra ticket office down to the town, [and some buses go al the way to the albercin] or walk down in about 10 mins. to get back up, the bus goes from the middle of the town every ten mins or so up to midnight.

as for the alhambra, do make sure that you get advance tickets for the day time, and don't miss the night-time visit either. the nasrid palaces in the moonlight are just gorgeous.
