Granada Hotel
 

There seems to be so many hotel options and many sound very intriguing. But we will only be in Granada for 2 nights so I dont want to get completely crazy. Room Mate Migueletes seems like a good choice if we want a historical feel but wi-fi and breakfast. How is the location? Of course we will go to Alhambra one day but we also want to explore Granada and be in a good location for walking.

We were thinking of upgrading to a Jr Suite. Is it worth it? We were also looking at AC Palacio Santa Paula but thought this was a more economical option. Plus the last couple of reviews of the AC on Trip Advisor have been less than stellar.

We will be in 4 cities in Spain (Granada, Barcelona, Seville and Madrid) and I have been researching them all including reding Maribels Guide. But I think i am starting to over-analyze! so I need a fresh perspective.

Our family of four enjoyed a wonderful trip to Spain last spring. Our girls were 6 and 7 at the time. I did what you did...analyzed every guide book in terms of booking hotels.

When we were in Granada we stayed at a hotel about 10 minutes out of the city by bus. The hotel was nice...we booked two adjoining rooms for the four of us but there was nothing in terms of restaurants around. I think it was on Maribels list. Was extremely convenient but during the Santa Semana we had difficulties finding a bus one evening and actually had to bypass several Semana parades to get out of the city. It was quite an experience!

If I were to do Granada again, I would book a hotel near the Cathedral. That would situate you perfectly in town for the trip up to the Alhambra and keep you in the heart of the action.

Room Mate Migueletes is a better location than AC Palacio Santa Paula (though the AC Palacio Santa Paula location is not bad).

The relative value of room upgrades are 100% subjective - only you can answer that question.

I too like being in the heart of the action. However at Maribel's suggestion our friends stayed at a "carmen" the Alcubilla del Caracol and had a memorable experience.
It is not in the thick of thing however they still loved it.

We just returned from a very nice 3-night stay at the Macia Plaza, right on Plaza Nueva.

It was recently refurbished, but quite modern inside. Clean, quiet and, best of all -- 49 E/double. We reached the Albaicin, Cathedral and Plaza Bib Rambla in about 2 minutes by foot. Perfect location, in the heart of everything.

Room Mate Migueletes looks really good. I can't wait to try Carmen de la Alcubila. I would make sure to stay in one hotel in Seville or Granada that is an old Andalucian style building with the interior courtyards, fountains etc. It is something uniquely Andalucian and a far more pleasurable experience than a large modern style hotel.

i have nothing but praise for the dona paula and their prices at the moment are fantastic, reflecting the state of the economy...€90-odd per room per night including excellent breakfast and taxes in march.

We stayed at the AC Palacio Santa Paula on our honeymoon in 2005. We never had an issue getting to all the places we wanted to see and we mostly walked. It was a beautiful hotel with a good breakfast. We really enjoyed it. As I've never stayed anywhere else, I can't comment on the others. But I can certainly give two thumbs up for the Santa Paula!

it's bang opposite the alhambra, and the town is accessible either by a 10 min walk downhill to the main square or the bus from outside the alhambra ticket office [which we used to come back up].

the rooms are if anything bigger than they appear on the website and it was very reasonably priced. the restaurant did an excellent ox-tail stew which we enjoyed after the night-time visit to the alhambra.

twoboys--mind if I ask where you are staying in Madrid? We are still looking for a room there (mid-May, 3 nights) as well as Granada and Seville. A quiet room is very important for us--DH tends to check his Rick Steves guide and rely on those recommendations. This can be scary...

I think we would rather be closer to town than the Alhambra. But Granada doesnt look all that big and we are New Yorkers so we are used to walking. We plan on stayin g at Las Casas de la Juderia in Seville which looks very Andalucian from the site. In Madrid we have narrowed it down to Catalonia las Cortes, ME Reina Victoria and Hotel de las Letras and in Barcelona we will probably be at teh Majestic

We stayed at the Hotel Casa del Capitel Nazarí an old palace built in 1503. It is in a superb location in Granada town. The rate for a double room was 95e per night and that included breakfast. Check out their Trip Adviser reviews:
