Gran Teatro La Fenice Reopening
 

Is anyone going to attend the opening performances at La Fenice?

I went to a concert there a while before it burned down and it was a wonderful experience, even though some fleas bit my feet.

I would have loved to be there for this grand reopening, anyone going?

When is it finally happening? It's been cancelled so many times, I'd given up looking it up. Glad to hear it may finally be finished?

Patrick, the grand opening concerts are from 12/14 through 12/21 with Lorin Maazel conducting.
There is a gala on New Years Eve too.

Will you visit it when you are in Venice on your next trip? I won't be in Venice for at least another year, so would love to hear your report if you go.

There is a splendid article in the Washington Post this morning. Apparently the opening concert went well but they do not plan to stage operas until the Fall.

Sad news, mamc. As usual there isn't much to see in the summer except for the big festivals. We've been rained out of Aida at Verona, and this year we're going in June -- too early for any of the festivals. I can't seem to win when it comes to seeing opera in Italy. At least I hope they'll be doing theatre tours at La Fenice, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
