Grafitti / Street Art Tour in Paris

Has anyone done one of those Grafitti Street art tours where you learn to make your own tag? I am thinking my teens might like it but I will be irritated if its a rip off tourist trap thing. Trying to mix up the Paris stuff to keep them happy! Thank you

I was on a tour like that in Montreuil on Saturday. The guide said he was doing a graffiti tour in Montmartre on Sunday. He basically only speaks French, but he was extremely knowledgeable about the whole graffiti scene and does graffiti workshops in groups or individually. Here is his website: www.felixstreetart.fr

Check out the site, "Paris with a Parisian." Antoine, the guide, has a Street Art Tour, among others. We have been on several tours with him and enjoyed them all. I think he was a street artist at one time and may have even written a book on street art.

All of the tour guides seem to be former (and current) graffers.

This tour I am looking at you actually learn to make a tag and then spray it on a building (not my thing... thinking of my teens) and you cannot legally tag here in NYC! ;)

I would think the tour guides - if they allow you do graffiti art - is probably allowed by the city - whereas tagging is generally a way that street gangs have of marking their territory and is illegal in most places.

Some of the best art I've seen was graffiti art done on trains and public transport in Italy

yes, they do allow you to do it which I think my kids would love.... in NY tagging is just signing your name. It doesn't have to be gang related.

I added the photos I took the other day to an older report about Montreuil which was more concentrated on the collective public gardens. In any case, Montreuil is always an interesting place to visit for people who want to see something completely different.
