STW, as I recall, you had a very good excuse for not finishing that report. It was a Christmas trip and you had to start right back to work when you returned. It's a heck of a lot easier for me to write a trip report during the summer, when I'm not working, than for you to have to do it during the school year!

It was a shame though as you'd gotten off to a great start! :)

Scarlett Jul 9th, 2009 06:05 AM

Such a mix of Good News Bad News here .. you were in Paris, but you hurt your knee. You had fun, but you were in pain. The car was not there, but a taxi was :D
Good that you are letting people know about the Shuttle company... I have done something like that, waited out on a cold Autumn morning in the street, where is that car ??? and then had to go search for a taxi.. it is not fun .

At the airport... you should have been given a wheelchair and you should have been allowed to board first. You were a Gimp .. they are supposed to treat gimps nicer than the rest of the cattle. sheesh.

You did such a good job with the planning and executing of this great gift to your daughter ( who will remember this always and maybe even do it with her daughter someday) and doing such a good trip plan ! It stinks that you got hurt but I am so impressed with your managing on your own regardless. You are a good mom and a great traveler!
((L)) <I> and you plan a mighty good trip! :)

seetheworld Jul 9th, 2009 06:15 AM

I agree 200%, scarlett! She does plan a great trip!

mms, will YOU be MY mommy?

:D

Fodorite018 Jul 9th, 2009 07:54 AM

LOL, you are all soooo good for my ego! :) I do suck up pain pretty well if we are on a trip. When I broke my hand, we continued skiing. And I didn't go to the dr for 3 days.

STW--So glad they made it in time! And especially glad that they didn't go to waste. The summer sales just began, so you are going at prime time for shopping! I better say right now that I take no responsibility for what you spend, lol! I can't wait to hear all about your trip!

seetheworld Jul 9th, 2009 09:15 AM

Summer Sales? My 2 favorite words!

BTW, the ortho called...NO torn meniscus and No surgical repair! However, there is lots of "wear and tear" on the knee in two places (where's that knee replacement thread??? :O ) So, I'll just keep w/ PT and get reevaluated in August.

Keep us posted on your knee progress, mms. ((f))

CAPH52 Jul 9th, 2009 12:37 PM

Glad to hear no surgery for you, STW!

When are you leaving on your trip?

CAPH52 Jul 9th, 2009 12:38 PM

Sorry for the highjack, mms! I second STW's request that you keep us posted!

Fodorite018 Jul 9th, 2009 12:57 PM

STW--That is fantastic news!!! Maybe we can get our knees done together;)

Caph--No worries:)

I go back to p/t in a few minutes. Will do this for another week before going back to the ortho. It is feeling so much better though that I am really hoping to delay the other knee issues.

In case anyone is wondering what STW is talking about, I sent her our unused metro tickets. I was so glad to "know" someone going soon who could use those, so talk about good timing:)

Scarlett Jul 9th, 2009 01:10 PM

Good timing, Nice people. ((F))

I can see it now, the Fodorite Floor at the hospital.. you show this little card that says Yes, I am a Fodorite and you get to stay on the same floor as mms and stw and who else?? :D

seetheworld Jul 9th, 2009 01:11 PM

Hi Caph, tomorrow night.

I had PT today and told them to be nice to me, lol. I have poor muscle strength in that leg now. I was told to ice it after my long paris walks -- drink in one hand, ice over knee in the other. Works for me!

mms, any chance on a brief synopsis on the shopping you didn't include in this report? No pressure.

seetheworld Jul 9th, 2009 01:12 PM

LOL, scarlett...and at the end of our stay, the hospital bestows a nice trip upon us both. :D

Fodorite018 Jul 9th, 2009 05:35 PM

LOL!!! Yes, a trip for both of us would be awfully nice:)...a Fodorite floor:D

STW, my pt went well today. Got a nice knee massage too. Your problem will be finding ice. Trust me...you might want to go to the pharmacy right when you get there and get the patches. They keep the swelling down. I just looked at the ones I have left and the package says "flector tissuegel". They are patches about 4x6 or maybe a bit larger, anyway, they feel cool on your skin and helped so much. Write this down, show the pharmacist (the cost is 13,90 euro), and you will be good...course a drink in one hand will help even more.

Shopping...omg, where to start! Best advice, stop at any place that you might have an interest, lol! Monoprix...fun for various chocolates (DD loved these candy bars called Lion, with a picture of a lions face). Nutella To Go, which are little packs of nutella and pretzel like crackers. Nuxe lotion and lip gloss and hand and nail creme...Monoprix carries it as well as every pharmacy. I love the big tubes of the lotion. Got hooked on those on our last trip. DD got some of their bronzer but I don't know if she has used it yet.Micky on Blvd St Michael is where DD got the silk blouse, which would be nice for us as well. Texier, at 348 rue Saint Honore is where DD got the wallet. Lots of nice stuff in there! Pylones, which has a few locations like in the Marais and on one of the isles, but also in Printempts and Galleries Lafayette. Printemps home store is a place I could shop in all day long. Foucher chocolates, on the way to the opera. Etam would be perfect for your son's gf's. Or Promod, lots cute tops in here at very reasonable prices. I got my winestopper at Perspective, which is on Ave de L'Opera (same street as Foucher). Also on that same street, and on the same side of the street (if you are facing the opera, the right side) is a store (can't remember the name) that had some nice bath items. I got a ceramic thing for my counter in there, and they had some cute shoes, and some unique earrings. On the same street, but other side (same side as Monoprix) is a small dress shop where DD found the perfect little black dress. Yves Roche is a fun store too...bath soaps, sunscreen...that sort of thing.

loved reading your trip report.
you are such a trooper to carry on with an injured knee.
hope it is getting better now that you are back home.
congrats to your dd. what a wonderful mother-daughter thing to do.

Fodorite018 Jul 12th, 2009 07:40 AM

Thank you, abranz:) Knee was feeling a bit better, but we went to Bastille Day yesterday and now I am paying the price.

I am hoping to get DH to download my pics so I can share some of those. I am clueless on how to do this, lol!

Canada_V Jul 14th, 2009 01:05 PM

mms - finally getting back to read the rest of your trip - and loved it :-) Like you had commented, I really liked that you were there at the same time, visiting some of the same things - it was really cool reading about parallel perspectives. And although I personally really, really, really dislike shopping, for some reason I love reading "mother and daughter" trip reports that include lots of shopping... I think with my 2 boys, I like occasionally being able to 'hanging with my teenaged daughter' vicariously! (And I especially like reading well-written, chatty and warm trip reports like yours :-) )

V

Fodorite018 Jul 14th, 2009 05:13 PM

Canada_V--Aw, thanks:) Too funny about not liking shopping, but you live in a household of men so I can understand. My DD can outshop most anyone...she and my mother were in heaven shopping together on our last trip. They wore me out, lol!

crefloors Jul 14th, 2009 06:58 PM

Great report mms. I hope your knee heals well and soon. Boy were you a trooper. I love, love, love to shop in Paris. So much stuff, so little time. LOL

travelonline Jul 15th, 2009 04:20 AM

disneymania4444 Jul 15th, 2009 08:59 PM

mms,
Excellent TR!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since we are going on a grad trip for our DD to Paris too! She already has a bum knee and I have bad back pain, so I can relate to your pains also. Hope your knee continues to heal and you are your normal self soon!

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

paris1953 Jul 16th, 2009 01:41 PM

mms, I love your trip report. Brings back wonderful memories. I took my first daughter (she refers to herself as "head child") for high school graduation in 2000. I laughed about your meltdown as she and I had a very similar experience at Versailles. And I agree with the comment that these are the things that make us even closer.

I took my 2nd daughter after her graduation in 2003. Your daughter and my middle child would be best buds in the shopping world! Both my daughters adore ProMod and H&M (we think the merchandise seems to be of higher quality--probably French women do not put up with garbage).

Thanks for sharing so much of your trip. I have truly thoroughly enjoyed every bit. BTW, I had knee replacement 8 months ago. Am glad I did, but it's not the picnic that the surgeon's represent it to be. Hope your knee comes back stronger than ever.
