Graduation trip for 3
 

Finally planning graduation trip for 18 yr. son plus parents flying into London in early June. Plan on visiting friends in Midlands for a day or 2, London at the end for 3-4 days and wandering inbetween. Looking for 2 ideas -- 1) what hotels fit 3 not small adults in one room and 2)where to wander from the Midlands -- I am more concerned about sleeping in small lumpy beds and crummy showers - there are LOTS of places to visit, but I do like my creature comforts due to bad back....

While they often lack character, I can recommend Marriott Hotels throughout the world for their consistently comfortable beds (comfortable everything in fact), and would advise that beds in other English hotels are quite unreliable - a few are great, and many are terrible. Regarding chain hotels, I've found Holiday Inns, Hiltons and Radissons to be quite variable in their comfort & quality standards. An Irish chain with British locations is Jury's Inn - the one I stayed in in Dublin was quite comfortable, and fit three adults well (although again, it lacked character). I know there are Jury's Inns in Kensington and Bloomsbury in London. A Marriott room with two double beds would accommodate the three of you (although you and hour spouse will have less room than usual). I've seen the very central, recently renovated Duke St Marriott in London, and it's quite impressive (but would start at 200 pounds a night, unless there's a deal). I've also stayed in Citadines Apart'hotels in London and Europe and, while ordinarily I'd recommend them for groups (they are more like suites, with kitchens, etc), the beds are fold-out types and not good for a bad back.

London accomodations--<BR><BR>If you can afford it, Marriott County Hall is a very nice, comfortable hotel in a great location. If that's above your budget, the Travel Inn County Hall is a lower-cost alternative in the same building (they have a few &quot;family&quot; rooms, technically not for kids over 14, but...).<BR><BR>Regards Holiday Inn, I can recommend their location in Mayfair. Decent, big city hotel in a good location. We are using Marriott points and have reservations at the Marble Arch hotel - hope it really is renovated. Location looks great! Thanks!

If you are using points try to book the Marriott London County Hall. It has huge rooms and large beds. The view can't be beat. London Eye just outside the door and Big Ben across the river.
