Grab a Bite at Heathrow's T4
from our last flight thru LHR I vaguely remember some coffee shops at Terminal 4. But this time I am looking for a decent, and inexpensive place to grab a light dinner when arrivig there at 9pm.
We're staying the the Hilton, but sure don't want to pay mega bucks for a bad meal (as I read about it here). Any suggestions? |
Pret a Manger. Far end of the Duty Free.

Yes, I remember Pret a Manger. Which could be an option to take care of an empty stomach...
But that's more like a kiosk where you buy your own ready-made sandwitch, isn't it? Isn't there a place where you can grab a real meal without making it fancy? And how far would it be from the Hilton? |
I guess I misinterpreted what you meant by "grab." To me, this term does not imply sitting down at a table and being served.
If you want decent, inexpensive, and anywhere near the terminal, I fear you have narrowed your criteria too far. |
I don't mind self-service. A cup of hot soup and a sandwitch would also be OK, I guess...

Heathrow has a good website where you can search for restaurants in Terminal 4: http://www.heathrowairport.com/
I see that there are a couple of "pubs" besides the sandwich shop. I cannot remember the name of the restaurant, but the last time we were at Heathrow we ate at a French style restaurant. It was decorated nicely and and food was good and not that expensive. |
You're arriving at T4. You cannot access the airside departure area, so ignore all the nonsense about what's near the duty-free.
The only eating arrangements landside at T4 are a pub (The Skylark which closes at 2300) and an Italian joint that closes at 2200, both up on the departures level, before security. If it were me, I'd check into the hotel and get the Heathrow Connect train from T4 to Southall for a decent curry. The better places get busy, so you might be there after the trains stop. Taxis back are reasonably easy to get. |
We are arriving at T4 around 9 pm and are checking in into the Hilton.
It's just that the Hilton's restaurant is expensive and didn't get too much of good reviews here... So the idea was to check in, and then walk back into Terminal 4 for a quick bite, but something just a bit more "sophisticated" than a cold, old, plastic-wraped sandwitch like at Pret a Manger.... |
www.baa.com/heathrow has interactive maps of the terminals and their shopping and eating facilities. According to that, there's a Café Italia and a Wetherspoon's on the mezzanine level of the arrivals hall. I wouldn't exactly say sophisticated, but they should be offering hot food and a sit-down at a much cheaper price than most hotel catering.

Great, thanks. When I have a few slow moments I'll visit there and study it....
