So, my answer is: if you think it represents value for money, go for it.
Personally, I would put the $400 towards something that I could use for navigation AND myriad other tasks when I wasn't actively pathfinding. Like a little computer.
If I already had a little computer, I'd spend $100 on some GPS software and hardware: tinyurl.com/2423rc

We have the TomTom Go 910 and love it.
One plus for it is you can download 100's of MP3 songs and use it as a jukebox during your travels.
Also one great feature is the speed camera warnings - that could save you $100 for one ticket pretty easily - we always slowed down when there was a camera thanks to TomTom...
Make sure to use your unit for a good amount of time on home roads before travel to work out the kinks...
We didn't know about the tiny reset button on the back of the unit and when the unit wouldn't power on while we were in Italy we lost use of it for the rest of our trip!!!
It has worked for the last month here in the states with no other problems or never needing to be reset again, which is nice.

Yeah, I remember you had to call the factory to find out how to reset it. Did they leave that procedure out of the manual, or didn't you read it?

Hi!
We bought our Garmin nuvi 350 and the add'l card for Italy and Greece. Spent about 550 in total. It was worth every penny. We loved it. Check out amazon.com for both the unit and card. I know the tom tom 910 is under $500 and is preloaded with both maps. You may want to consider that unit as well.

RTFM...Didn't have the manual with us in Europe - and no internet access at the time. I found it on the TomTom website after we got home, for all I know it is on the first page of the manual, but I read the manual the first night and then put it away!

Also, the TomTom arrived on Friday afternoon and we flew out on Monday - so we only had 2 days to try it our driving around our home area, which wasn't enough. Now I know all of its quirks and tricks

Yes, my unit was "made" a while ago therefore, it needed a software update. My suggestion is to use/practice with the unit prior to travelling. Which we failed to do because i had a wedding the week before our trip AND we had a closing on our inv. property.
My mistake completely in not being prepared!

I am also thinking of buying the Tom Tom 910 which is pre-loaded with the European countries we will be in. Seems I can buy it on ebay at a decent price. What "tricks and quirks" can I expect? Am not leaving until the end of August, so have time to play with it. I'm not that savy with ebay, so am also wondering if its a "safe" way to buy an item like this. Thanks
