GPS-speed limit question
I rented a car in Gdansk so that I could travel to an out-of-the-way place--Hitler's Wolf's Lair--near Ketryzn, Poland. The car had a GPS, and on the way back to Gdansk, I finally noticed that the GPS showed the little red traffic warning signal with a number inside it.
It turns out the number was the speed limit of the area through which I was driving. When the speed limit changed, or perhaps when I was unknowingly breaking the speed limit, a little chime would sound. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, and I've been wondering if this is a common feature of GPS technology nowadays. |
Hi Peg
It is. I've got the same on 2 different GPS. But they change the speedlimit when you are insde the new zone, so dont rely totally on it. |
yes, works like that on my Renault and on my phone when using that. Data sets may be out of kilter so you cannot trust it completely, but not bad tool

Peg, welcome to the 21st century!

The SatNav I use on my phone (Here Drive+) pings if you go over the limit. It pings twice if you are going more than 5km over the limit and goes bananas if it thinks you are going more than 10km over the limit. Only found that last one out when it though a stretch of road was 70kmph, but it had been upgraded to 90kmph. Otherwise it was very accurate, including in a 30kmph section of roadworks!
A little warning triangle is useful, but pinging really makes you notice it, since I spend most of my time looking at the road, not the satnav! |
that facility has been a around for many years...before 2008 at least.
But only as good as the map updates. |
traveller 1959: Thanks for the welcome. I thought I had already entered the 21st when I accidentally bought a cell phone that has a camera on it.
I guess not, though. |
