GPS in France

I would like to rent a GPS for a 5 day drive in France. I can do it from the states through Auto Europe but they want payment for the entire length of my trip, not just the 5 day car rental. I'm told the major rental companies do not rent them. Any thoughts?

A year ago Avis had some Renault Vel Satis cars with built in GPS. I am not sure if they have them anymore because they were provided for the launch of the vehicule and I dont know if they continued to receive supplies. Last time I called they still had them but would not garentee that you would get one with GPS.

You might consider a solution such as an add on device to a Palm Pilot. That may be cheaper depending on how much they are charging to rent the GPS unit. I added a GPS receiver and software to my laptop for about 125 dollars.

A couple of times last year, as recent as December, I rented cars in Avignon with GPS. It is great to have!

Thanks. I don't have a palm but had considered one just to sync my Outlook at home and work. If you or anyone has experience with a palm and gps add on for France I'd like to know. I wasn't planning on taking my laptop. Perhaps I should reconsider.

Skis -

Seen lots of people who have rented cars with GPS in Avignon. Shouldn't be too difficult to do and apparently it works very very well. Can't understand what Auto Europe means by asking you to pay for you whole stay? You pay for the number of days you rent a car - end of story.
