gps help

Hi all
You were extremely helpful in organising a mobile phone for our trip so now seek your assistance with gps.

We are based in Australia and going to the United Kingdom via Singapore stopover and part of our trip is a two week driving tour around the UK. We have already booked the car but the cost to hire a gps was highway robbery. So can anyone help where we can get a gps with uk maps?

Please advise.

How MUCH was the GPS rental charge?????

I'd just buy a Garmin Nuvi (or something similar) and the UK map for less than $200 USD.

For two weeks it was over AUS$500 - outrageous!

Basic satnavs with UK maps are available here for around £70 and sometimes cheaper. I wouldn't expect to spend anything approaching $200 US.

Try: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st...chTerms=SATNAV

Argos stores are all over the UK, see the store locator on the website. (Other fine SatNav retailers are available).

We just got one from www.amazon.co.uk for under £100.

In the UK, PC World and Halfords are the two major SatNav retailers on edge of town strip malls.

In the centres of larger towns, Currys.digital is usually easier to find than Argos, which has an uncanny knack of choosing cheap locations many visitors might struggle to find.

flanner, you could always use a SatNav....oh yeah....

look on ebay for maps that will work with your current GPS.

look on ebay for maps that will work with your current GPS

Just watch out for the many fake copies circulating on ebay that may not even work properly.

And even w/ a sat nav -- invest a few £ in a proper road atlas after you are in the UK. A Sat Nav/GPS is helpful -- but can also get you into trouble in some rural areas.

Thanks all, decided we will buy one when we are in London from Argos or other stores as mentioned. Appreciate your comments.
