GPS for Europe
I'm thinking of buying my husband a Garmin GPS or Magellans for Chanukah. Anyone have any ideas on which they think is better and why? Also, we don't really need it for the U.S, although there was a week end in Boston....Basically, he didn't want to use a map! I want to know if they come with Europe capabilities or if you can buy the software and how much extra that costs? The big question is, do they work as well in Europe as the U.S. if you don't purchase it in Europe? Thanks in advance.

This topic has been done on Fodor's just recently. You can find previous discussions by doing a search for GPS.
We have a Garmin Nuvi 670 that is preloaded with US, Canada and Europe maps. We have used it in all three areas and absolutely love it. It was indispensible on our Europe trip in September. Made it much less stressful.
There is also a less expensive Garmin Nuvi 370 that has Europe, Canada and US maps preloaded but it has a smaller screen than the 670 and I believe fewer features.
You can also get some good info at www.thegpsstore.com.

I own the Garmin Nuvi 370 and love it. I have no problem with the smaller size when I am driving and when I am walking the small relatively thin unit fits nicely in my pocket.
I've never used a Magellan unit so I can't tell you much about that.
