Goteborg/Vaxjo??

I've posted before about our Volvo pickup and you all gave us great suggestions..our time has been shortened a bit and we have decided that we will stay two nights in Goteborg before flying to Switzerland. My question...
1. The first day we are there will be jet lag, so we plan on just walking the city a bit.
2. Second day we pick up the Volvo....is it feasible to drive to Vaxjo--to see the glass area of the country?? From what I can tell it is about 2 hours from Goteborg???

Thanks in advance!!!

This is not going to answer your question, but I talked to my daughter-in-law Kathy, who is a teacher, about someone who was picking up a Volvo in Göteborg last week. Are you the one?
I have been to Göteborg several times and to Vaxjö more than several times, but have never driven between the two. I think the distance is about 200 km., so your guess of two hours is pretty close. Roads are good in Sweden, and there is not a lot of traffic. I have been to Orrefors and Kosta Boda glassworks. Both are interesting. If either of you is of Swedish origin, you might be interested in the Emigrant Institute in Vaxjö.
Have a good trip.

Hi Boots!
Yes! We are the ones picking up a Volvo! We are very excited...your advice is awesome...we don't have any Swedish heritage, but we decided we wanted to see a little more of Sweden, rather than try and cram in a trip to Copenhagen...and I came upon the glass area while reading our Lonely Planet Scandinavia book....so, you think that would be time well spent down in those areas?? Thank you!!
Do you have questions about the Volvo etc??

I wish I did have questions about the Volvo, but I won't be picking up one of those for quite some time.
Your itinerary for Sweden may be a bit ambitious because you may be tired on Day 2, too. But if you want to try out that new car, a trip to Vaxjö might be just the thing. It is a far easier trip than going to Oslo or Copenhagen, both of which are more interesting, in my opinion, than the area around Vaxjö. The countryside in Sweden is quite boring to some people, rather peaceful to others. Keep in mind that it will take you some time to get out of the city of Göteborg and some time to get into Vaxjö unless you bypass the city for the Glass Kingdom.
On another of your posts, you said flying from Göteborg to Switzerland was a bit tricky. You have probably looked at whichbudget.com. They don't have any flights from Göteborg to Switzerland, but they do have flights to other places in Europe that might take you fairly close to your destination. I think you said this was your first trip to Europe. I am excited for you and glad to know someone who knows Kathy.

We've picked up a Volvo and visited glass country although with Stockholm in between. Never driven Goteborg to Vaxjo.

Schedule your Volvo pickup as early on the second day as possible for you. You'll take your luggage with you, there are lockers at Volvo to store it. After you get the car (and they will give you a free lunch and tour) they'll give you directions to get started. Getting out of Goteborg will be somewhat easier as Volvo is south of town.

Check out the glass kingdom website http://www.glasriket.se/index.html. You can order a map and brochures there to get ready. We spent a day touring there and saw many factories. We liked Orrefors, Kosta, Boda, Johansfors, and Bergdala the best. Don't know if you'll be there in the summer or if you're spending the night in Vaxjo, but I think a Hyttsill would be a fun evening. It sounds like a big traditional Swedish feast. We were there in March so couldn't experience one. We stayed in Kalmar.

There is also a wonderful pottery area north of Helsingborg on the coast, near Angelholm. It is not internationally famous, as the glass kingdom is, but still a wonderful traditional craft area. More scenic as well, since it is near the coast.

Colorado17: Michelin indicates three hours and thirty-three minutes, Goteborg to Vaxjo. It is 265 kilometers or about 165 miles. This assumes the coastal route.
If you take the shortest route via Boras, it is 145 miles, but will take three hours and fifty-five minutes because you will spend little time on motorways.
Michelin takes into consideration road conditions and speed potential.
If you want to look at it, it is at www.viamichelin.com
Have a great trip.
Why not

Boots--Woops, I may have mislead you-I was chatting with someone here last week who knew someone that picked up a Volvo, so I wrongly assumed it was your daughter in law, when you wrote back!! I'm sorry about that!! Thank you for your suggestions on the swedish countryside....we might be pushing it in terms of time, driving around etc...so, i'm not sure what we will do!! The more I post here though, I learn the realities of the travel times etc, and maybe its better to stick close to Goteborg, or maybe drive some place, an hour for dinner and then just head back?? Sprin2----I liked the idea of the Hyttsill, we will be there at the end of July! Joegri---thank you for taking the time to look up the driving distance, i'll be keeping the michelin directory!!
THANK YOU!!!-CO
