Gordes and St. Remy "Inns"

We are looking at La Gochelle in Gordes, and Maison de Bournissac in Eyragues - can't find this even on the map, but supposed to be 5 min outside of St. Remy.

We plan to visit Vaucluse and Bouches du Rhone departments, stay in Aix a few nights (althought getting ALOT of negative feedback about doing this).

Everyone suggests St. Remy as base, but there is nothing other than Les Baux and maybe Eygalieres that we want to see there. I think there is more near Gordes - Menerbes, Oppede le Vieux, Saignon, Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Rousillon, etc. Then see MAYBE Avignon, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Vaison la Romaine, Crestet, We have no desire to go to Nimes or Arles or Uzes - there is only so much time - 8 days...

Has anyone stayed at either of these inns? La Gochelle is in Gordes, and Maison de Bournissac is right outside of St. Remy - Montee d'Eyragyes.

I don't have a good sense of either St. Remy and what's near or Gordes - does Gordes make more sense for us to stay?
Kim, as I told you in my email,Eyrague is north of St. Remy D571 road. That is why it is important to have a detailed map because it will show the small villages. There are signs all over Provence showing which direction your hotel is. Look at the map you will see the D571goes from Les Baux to S.R. to Eyragues. I am looking at the 245Michelin which only covers Provence and the Coted'Azur. I hope I have explained it clearly, otherwise someone jump in. mimi p.s. let me once again stress the importance of a detailed map.

Not sure if you were the one asking about Maps of Provence on another thread, but I have a simple plasticized Streetwise map of Provence and it has small towns (even Eyragues) on it. It only cost $7 at Borders or something--I didn't use it alone when traveling there, but it's fine for planning (I bought a Michelin once I got there). There are some things to see in St Remy itself, of course, such as the "asylum" where Van Gogh stayed (which is now a nursing home, I think), some ruins. However, if you aren't interesting in seeing things around there (ie, Nimes, Arles), why stay there? I wouldn't. I'm not that crazy about real little villages like that (for staying in, anyway), I would stay near Gordes given that choice. I'm one who likes Aix-en-Provence, but I'm not that batty over St-Remy in comparison to some. I think Gordes makes more sense for you. I thought of staying in La Gacholle as it looked nice, but I didn't. I think it has some half board requirement, which I won't do. YOu must not have a very good map, as I said, you can get a decent one for planning without much trouble.

I answered another post here recently by extolling the virtues of La Gacholle. Do a search on La Gacholle and You'll find it. I thought it looked wonderful and the meal I had there was terrific. I loved Gordes. We had trouble finding "the right stuff" in St. Remy.

Les Baux, Roussillon, Gordes are villages not to miss for their beauty. And they are small, you could visit all three in one day. The ochre mines in R. are worth visiting. Nimes and Arles are huge in comparison. These two you will find(including St. Remmy) places to dance, designer boutiques. In the villages , the only clothing you will see for sale ,usually is market day , and that will be racks of made in India, etc. On the outskirts of St. R. , not to be missed is Glanon and Les Antiques. There is the museum of Arletan History, showing how they lived years ago in arles. The clinique where Van Goth stayed is not open to the public but the Cloisters are. The old part of town is the most interesting, where the bull fights are held and the Place de Forums, this square has The Cafe de Nuit that Van Goth painted. It's fun eating here with so many terrace cafes grouped together and strolling musicians. I think you said you were going in May??/ If I were you I would not delay reservations.
