google earth

I love googleearth.com. It's a great way to get a feel for where you are going. It's great to find out the location and real surrounding of your hotel.

I have absolutely no skills regarding Google earth. I have it on my desktop and can't figure out how to see ANYTHING!

I'm now waiting for DD's boyfriend to visit and show me how to make it work. I'm excited nonetheless!

Can someone tell me why GoogleEarth has great difficulty finding Tibet?

Even if I sight myself over India it can't find the place

Robespierre Mar 4th, 2007 01:34 PM

Never mind Google Earth.

Just type the address (<i>e.g.</i> <b>5, av Duquesne, 75007 Paris</b>) in the Google search blank, and press the &quot;Maps&quot; button.

(Does not work with Tibet.)

I just tried &quot;fly to - tibet&quot; and ended up in France!!! lol

TravMimi Mar 4th, 2007 01:42 PM

I just sat over nepal and did fly to tibet and everything came up. I had all the options checked and i think it's geographic web

Type Lhasa in the 'Fly To' and you get some Tibetan landmarks. Wasn't it Google that agreed to filter its content for Chinese surfers? Or was it Yahoo? Perhaps that's why they don't show Tibet as a separate country.

TravMimi Mar 4th, 2007 01:47 PM

that's a thought heimdall. could be a google china thing

J62 Mar 4th, 2007 01:50 PM

I just checked and had no problem zooming in anywhere in Tibet or China.

rkkwan Mar 4th, 2007 01:56 PM

If you know already know where Tibet is, you can see it with no problem. But the search engine isn't very good across the globe.

alanRow Mar 4th, 2007 02:00 PM

If you do it the default it goes to France

Even if you position yourself over India you've got to get under 4000km above the earth before it can find Tibet as a place just north of Nepal
