Good website to search for temperature/precipitation averages?
 

I'm trying to find a website that has temperature and, more importantly, precipitation averages for various European cities/regions. I've been using weather.com but it doesn't always list the precipitation averages. Any good websites to recommend?

The BBC website is okay, but I usually just end up googling "average rainfall xxx".

www.weatherunderground.com has a feature where you can check historic weather info. Choose a city, and scroll down a bit to find this feature. If you put in the date, you can find the actual data for that day and also the daily averages for both temps and precip.

julies, that is exactly what I am looking for! Thank you! travelgourmet, I was trying that but not getting very good results for some of the areas. I figured there had to be averages somewhere.

Don't set too much faith in weather statistics - every year is different. Even more so with the recent changes in climate due to global warming. There are no reliable rules except the general trend that the summer months are warmer than the winter months.

I think this is actually pretty bad advice and, frankly, comes across as simply throwing up your hands. It is a recipe for making bad decisions.

Obviously, your experience for any given day will often differ from the averages, but they remain your best bet for planning. The goal of looking at these averages is simply to get some indication of the likelihood of weather being good or not, and they do a very good job of that, if you use them correctly.

The Trip Planner on Wunderground is good, it shows historical weather for your dates -

Kay, I found that feature and that's what I've been using. Wonderful!

I know that it's impossible to predict the weather. I'm mostly trying to figure out the average rainfall, in inches, for the month of May. While not exact, if I see a city with a rainfall average of 4", for example, I'll probably avoid it. So I'm just using it to get a general feel for what I could potentially expect rain-wise.
