Good Road Map for Scotland
 

Does any one have a suggestion for a good road map for Scotland?

Michelin makes good road maps for those driving a car . They are detailed and broken down into sections of the country. You can buy them at Barnes and Noble and perhaps other places. OR you could wait and get one in Scotland, though you probably want to study it first.

i use michelin maps for all of my planning, but we find them too big to use in the car and too awkward....for the british isles we prefer the very detailed "ordance maps"...you can buy them in uk bookstores and many gas stations....i was in ireland earlier this year and pruchased an irish equilivant for about 12E...it was handy and gave us plenty of detail....
they take a little getting used to but i think you would enjoy them....you do need details when travelling and michelin just does not provide that...

i would also reccomend the one with the spirial binder if it is available..

Just go into WH Smith or any other bookstore when you arrive in the UK, and you will find a huge selection. What constitutes a good roadmap is very much personal preference. Do you want one with a large scale that will show all the little byroads, or one with a smaller scale so you won't have to turn the pages so often? I use the AA (Automobile Association, not Alcoholics Anonymous) Road Atlas of Great Britain.

You can purchase the AA maps at the airport.

Every supermarket and fuel station sells Great Britain Road Atlas at a bargain price of around £1.99, instead of £5-£8 at bookshops.

What you want is either the RAC or AA Road Atlas based on the Ordnance Survey at a scale of 1:300000.

These are widely available, and cost about y10.

If you buy on a smaller scale you will get less accuracy and less ability to go off main roads.
