D&D restaurant group (what used to be Conran) is a good bet. Above average prices but excellent quality.

For Bloomsbury/Holborn, there are loads of decent restaurants in Red Lion St including a great Spanish place Isolabella - well worth a visit. There are also a few nice pubs in the street. There are a few Davys wine bars in the areas, all offer good simple food at reasonable price. There is one, The Bung Hole, next to Mid City Place on Holborn and Truckles in Pied Bull Yard. Another favourite, not far away in Hatton Garden is http://www.danddlondon.com/london restaurants/find which has a number of different dining option at differing price levels.

Keep an eye out online for Chez Gerrard offers - they have some good ones from time to time http://www.brasseriegerard.co.uk/

If you want to push your budget a bit (not absurdly so) and want a bite of Modern British cuisine, I quite liked Arbutus.

For Spanish, I thought Fino, on Charlotte Street, was pretty good.

I also usually seek out some Chinese food, as Chinese food is awful in CPH, and very much like Yming in Soho.

crellston, thanks for the Chea Gerard website. I didn't realize they offer specials. We stop there at least once on every trip.

Another inexpensive place near Ken High St is Cafe Concerto.

A fairly reasonable choice is Biagio across from the Royal Academy

avalon - no problem. They were offering 2 for 1 lunches a while ago as were a lot of chains- seem to have disappeared for the xmas run up.

Apologies, but I miss-posted the link for The Bleeding Heart in Hatton Garden should be http://www.bleedingheart.co.uk/

You mean you've never hit a bung hole with a mallet?

You haven't lived old bean.
