Good pub food near Cartwright Crescent, London

We'll be staying at the Harlingford Hotel next week. Can anyone suggest good pubs or inexpensive restaurants in the area? My wife doesn't care much for Indian food, so I'm afraid Indian restaurants are out of the picture. Thanks.

There are a number of restaurants on Marchmont Street, just south from Cartwright Gardens. I remember eating at a pleasant little Italian place at the corner of Tavistock, I believe. And there is the famous fish restaurant on Leigh Street, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Is the Italian place La Bardigiana? Now I'm getting hungry!

Over on Bloomsbury street is a really good pub called the Duke's Head that has superb food. The pub is attached to a hotel and shares the same kitchen so you get really good food at pub prices.

The fish restaurant on Leigh Street is called North Sea Fish Restaurant. I think it's the freshest fish in London, and I always go there on my trips to London. And inexpensive, too.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions. Joe

I pulled my restaurant report from 3/01 up for you. See "just back from London" for some suggestions. The Harlingford is a remarkable deal for its price, location and breakfast. You've made a good choice. The North Sea Restaurant is a must!

Enjoy.
