Good Phrase books
Hi all, I'm leaving for Spain in 2 months. Although I've been studying Spanish, it took me a year living in Germany to be comfortable with German, so I know that I'll need help with Spanish phrases.
Thanks for your help.
Can't help with the actual Spanish but I can give advice on a phrasebook. Before leaving for France I studied french by taking a class and listening to tapes. About 1 month before leaving I bought the Berlitz CD and phrasebook. I think it was about $20 at Barnes and Noble. I'd listened to the CD in the car. The phrasebook was invaluable while in France, not only ordering in restaurants, but also when I got a little sick and had to go to the pharmacy. It was small and easy to carry. The book was divided nicely into different areas (food, lodging, transportation, health), and had an english/french dictionary and also a food dictionary. Hope this helps. Tammy

I like the Rick Steves phrasebooks. They are quite compact, yet have pretty good "menu decoders," and are divided into practical sections such as transportation, accomodations, eating/drinking, chatting, etc. They contain conversational phrases that you would actually use in real situations.

Though not a book, try a web site named: FOREIGN LANGUAGES FOR TRAVELERS. It has 70 languages, and even sound to help you. Good luck!
