Good Ligurian beach for a short stop?

Would love to hear any suggestions on a good beach along the Ligurian coast of Italy (for June), that is easily accessible from the highway. Our family will be driving from Lake Maggiore to Florence (via Milan, Genoa), and we are hoping to stop by one of the smaller beach towns halfway through the day for lunch and a chance to dip in the water with our kids. I know some of the towns can take awhile to access with all the windy roads down to their public beach. Have only been to Portofino and Levanto...while beautiful, they take awhile to reach. Thanks!

Nessundorma, do you think Sestri is a better choice than Camogli, if I'm looking for ease of access from main highway (coming from Milan/Genoa) and parking, charm/setting and beach to dip our toes in for a half hour?

From Maggiore, take A-26 south and miss Milan. The road into Camogli can get crowded. The best beach is probably Levanto but it is a bit further from the highway. That would be my choice.

I say Levanto. I have driven to Camogli in the heat of summer on a weekend and have had to drive back to Piemonte simply because I did not find a parking place. Parking is very limited at beach level and even above on the road it can be tough. I am a huge Camogli fan... if you are going during the week, you might want to give it a shot since it is on your way after you get off the a26.

Thanks Bob and Diana,
Whoops, I meant to say we are coming from Lake Como, so I believe that's A7 we'll be driving to to coast. Levanto is pretty, but it took us so long to drive down to years ago...was looking for a town a little easier to get to from road, on our way to Florence. Diana, do you think Camogli would be just as crowded on a Monday (June 19)? Have either of you been to Sestri Levante, which was also suggested? Thanks!
