WHY don't you go to a different part of Paris since you "have been there so many times before". I'm beginning to think --well, whatever. STay where you want. You don't want suggestions.

It's been a few years since we stayed here and it looks like it's been updated... the Hotel Elysées Regencia is very near l'Arc de Triomphe. The address is 41 Avenue Marceau. Hope you find something you like!

"You don't want suggestions." Gretchen, that is a VERY unfair slam against the OP. The OP DOES want suggestions -- for an area you don't like.

Why does the OP have to justify his/her area choice to you? You do know that it's the OP's trip, not yours, right? I remember asking here for hotel suggestions in Passy. A bunch of people tried to push me toward hotels in the 18th or in the Marais. Those places are fine for some, but it's not where I like to stay. A few, like you, got quite huffy when I declined their advice to stay in another area.

The OP has thanked those who suggested hotels that met the original brief and is looking into those suggestions.

(by the way, I don't mean you were huffy about my request -- just the OP's in this thread.)

Gretchen, you have obviously not read the post correctly. We have been to Paris once before as I mentioned at the beginning and enjoyed the position as it was close to hop on hop off bus, restaurants, shopping and other sights.
It may not be the part of Paris you like but you failed to give any alternatives. What hotels would you recommend?

I have stayed in this area a few times and all the hotels were good. Hotel Cecilia was the last hotel I stayed at in June, clean and very nice staff, breakfast was included.
La Regence Etoile was a very nice hotel for a budget price.
Splendid Etoile was a lovely hotel, that had a great view if you paid for a corner room looking at the Arch de Triomphe
I quite like this area but have stayed in the St Germain area and also near the Louvre. Paris is very easy to get around no matter where you stay.This is my favourite city in the world. Enjoy

I DID read it correctly, and I did give you alternatives at least by arrondisement. But for specifics, the HOtel Muguet in the 7th is two blocks from two different Metros and has approximately 4 bus lines within a block. We have stayed there 3 or 4 times. Rue Cler market street is a block away. There are literally a dozen really good restaurants within 4 blocks, and good shopping. The OP said they were open to "other" suggestions, but apparently only for that area. It's fine with me. As many have said, transportation is very easy in Paris but I dislike having to always "go" somewhere on the Metro to find the interesting things, especially IF I was there only 2 days.
But a hotel IN that area is the Hotel California on rue Berri. It is where my parents lived in the 20's for a time until their house in Villa Montmorency was ready. I have considered staying there at least for the night on some trips just for the nostalgia. I have their bill for the week of my older sister's 5th birthday, when they had room service and champagne!! Very sweet.

Hi everyone,
just thought I would let you know we have booked a Prestige room at the Hotel De Bois.
Some of the other hotels only had vacancies for one of the nights we wanted.

Good choice and I hope you enjoy your stay! For a choice of distinctly NON-sterile cafes, shops, etc, head down to the Place Victor Hugo and poke around the web of streets surrounding the Place. There is a good artisanal bakery on Ave Raymond Poincare about halfway between the Starwood Renaissance Hotel Le Parc on that street and the Trocadero, same side as the Starwood hotel. (Boulangerie Lesk: Avenue Rayond Poincare, 43.)

If you haven't been yet, try and fit in a visit to the Guimet Asian Arts museum. One of my favourite museums in Paris; I like that it has a good collection of Korean as well as Japanes and Chinese art.
