Good Hotels in York?
 

Hi, does anyone have any good suggestions for hotels in York, England? I would like to be inside the walls, and stay in a nice hotel - not dirt cheap, not break the bank. We'll be traveling in August with two children, so a family room, or affordable enough for two rooms is very helpful.

since we don't know how big your bank is to know what would break it -- what is your actual budget?

It's been awhile since we stayed there but we were more than pleased with Dean Court. It has an excellent location, directly across from York Minster.

I checked their website and they do have family rooms.

As luck would have it, I found a really neat looking place in another forum. It's called The Blue Bicycle

and it looks great! 166 pounds for a family room for four - "1 bedroom apartment with a very large lounge, through to a kitchen/dining area, then through to a beautiful four poster bedroom with a beamed ceiling & overlooking the river Foss. The en-suite bathroom has a large double bath & overhead shower. The two seater sofa in the lounge converts to a double sofa bed".

The cost also includes on-site parking, a bottle of Champagne on arrival, a fruit basket and the choice of either a full English or continental pastry breakfast pack. There is also a fridge full of complimentary mixers, fruit juices, soft drinks, beers, milk etc, & home-made bread, cereals, preserves

I'll let you know if it lives up to the billing, but it sounds pretty good so far!

Funny, I hadn't thought of Dean Court in years and today it's featured in the NYX travel section!

We stayed at the Dean Court last August and had a family room. We couldn't have been happier with the hotel. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast delicious.

Dean Court is face to face with the Minster and steps from the medieval streets of the center of York. It was also quite close to a section of the wall and the museum area.

WOW!

It was great, and I would highly recommend it to anyone going to York. The room" was really a flat with a large living room (w/fold out sofa), a well organized kitchen (w/mini frig, freezer, dishwasher, cooktop & washer/dryer), spacious bathroom, and a lovely, high-ceilinged, beamed bedroom with french doors that opened directly out onto the river (complete with swans for good measure).

The best part was that as The Blue Bicycle is most well known as a restaurant, the kitchen in our flat was overflowing with great food and drink. In addition to about 15 bottles of soda and juice, wine, spirits, and a great bottle of champagne on ice, there was a basket of fresh fruit, two loaves of freshly baked bread, and fresh eggs, bacon, ham, tomatoes, and portabella mushrooms to cook for breakfast.

We were knocked out by what a great place it was! The staff were lovely, and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.
