Good Friday - What is closed?
 

We will be in London on Good Friday and are seeing a play that evening. Are the stores open on that day? What about tourist sights? I am guessing banks and such would be closed, but didn't know if anything would affect travel plans.

The banks are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday but I don't think much else is. ATMs will of course be accessible.

I should add if there is something you really care about seeing, check ahead--almost all major attractions have web sites with opening, closing dates and times.

Some tourist attractions close on Good Friday - the British Museum for example. But most are open -- and often crowded.

Offhand, on Good Friday I'd say the only significant places to close are the British Museum and the British Library. No paid-for attractions are closed, but it's worth checking beforehand for the other free places (it seems more of an issue with the scholarly ones, like the Courtauld, the Wellcome or the Wallace Collection, than the big free blockbusters like the Tate or the National Gallery).

Though big shops open normally on Good Friday, it IS a business holiday. So many small eating places, shops and even some pubs in areas that depend on local businesses (like most of the City of London) will close, as they will the following day and on Easter Monday: in most of the West End, though, this is rare.

Note that all shops over 3,000 sq ft close all day Easter Sunday. Virtually all attractions open all day Easter Monday.

The pubs close at 10.30pm.
