Good Friday in Ireland
 

I have read several posts on this topic indicating that pubs are closed on Good Friday. Will all restaurants be closed also?

Quite a few restaurants and shops will be open.Traffic will be light in Dublin as many will leave the city for the 4 day weekend.See visitdublin.com for city attractions.Places like Killarney will have lots of shops open.Have a look too at www.heritageireland.com for alternative ways of passing that day.

Restaurants will not be open. Some odd shops will be open like a furniture store and a newsagent but not restaurants, at least not in Dublin. Its 1 of 2 days the pubs are closed in the year. Its very quiet and most people have house parties as you can't go anywhere. Sometimes people go to hotels in the country as they can serve "residents". Its just the Irish law, if you are in a hotel its like being in someones private house and you can purchase a drink.

Its ususally a ghosttown in Dublin and lovely and quiet.

I will be staying in Wexford Town that evening but it sounds as if I may be able to get a meal and possibly a drink at a hotel restaurant. Is that correct?

yes, residents in hotels will be able to have a drink with their meal.

Are you staying in a hotel in Wexford? If you are staying in a B&B and then go to the hotel I am not sure the meal and drink will be an option as you will not be a resident unless you are booked into the hotel. Let us know.

I spoke to 3 hotels in the area and it seems that if I have a reservation in one of their dining rooms, I will be able to have dinner. Not sure about having a drink though but I guess I can live without a beer for one day!

Just to let you know, if your plans are to visit Kylemore Abby that Friday--don't, they will be closed. We changed our plans so we could visit the Abby.
Didn't really think about it, but was looking at their site and realized they are closed that day.
